    1. Finland played a major part at the Eastern Front of WWII among Germany’s European allies between 1941-44.

But the earlier Winter War is seen as something of a „Leonidas at Thermopylae“ thing, and not only by the Finns themselves. Their resistance in 1939-40 has overshadowed their role in the Axis.

Finland also played its cards rather well in the Cold War that followed in the sense that it basically remained independent, although Stalin did extract a lot, both in territory annexed to the USSR and in relation to obtaining a say in domestic Finnish politics (i.e. what was later, perhaps unfairly, dubbed „Finlandization“).

Finland would have very likely stayed out of this crap in the early 40’s if the dumbasses in Moscow, Stalin and his red band of cunts, wouldn’t have invaded Finland in late 1939.

Kinda amazing how many commenters here rant about Finland being a Nazi state and getting off easily after the war, with ”Finland got off easy” probably standing for ”not invaded by USSR”.

The comments smell heavily like they’re coming from the east.

People tend to forget that Finland was a member of the Axis longer than Italy was
