      Do people seriously actually pay this? The letters always have and always will just go straight in the bin.

      I haven’t watched the BBC in 6 or 7 years. They used to produce really good TV in all genres, but I found the quality diminished significantly.

      For all its flaws the BBC is still the best media organisation there is.

      We don’t watch live TV or anything BBC .

      Tbh I don’t watch much at all..

      YouTube, maybe Netflix every now and again.

      75% of my viewing is youtube these days. The rest is my own Plex server and then the occasional football match on IPTV…

      Knowing my luck, if we stopped paying it, someone would be knocking the door at 12:30 on a Saturday where you can see the TV from the front door.

      £180 is ridiculous for the BBC, which I never watch.

      All the anti-BBC accounts will be IMMEDIATELY out in full force. Never sure whether it’s just shills or people that are so infinitely more intelligent and better than the rest of us because they don’t pay it.

      I am beginning to think more deeply on the concept. It’s a publicly funded thing, and yet, they have given way more airtime to Reform than other parties recently. I feel like it should be much more balanced given we’re paying for it

      Fewer and fewer people are paying it each year. Raising the price isn’t going to help.

      Yep. Happy to support quality ad free TV, radio and web service.

      I’ve never been conned into paying for 4 or 5 subscriptions because I’m afraid I’ll miss out.

      Haven’t watched broadcast TV since 2008 or so and haven’t paid the license for the same time. I can understand it if you like soaps, live sports or…I don’t know….reality stuff I suppose? Personally, I find all my TV entertainment needs are fully satisfied by Netflix, Prime and YouTube and I get AppleTV for free via my credit card rewards. Don’t see the need for anything else.

      I still get the letters, though, although not as frequently as I used to. I think they’re starting to lose hope 😀

      Netflix standard £12.99 a month = £155.88 a year,
      ITVX premium £5.99 a month = £59.99 a year,
      Disney plus £12.99 a month = £155.88 a year

      Above £180 a year seems a bit bonkers to me

      I think this might be the year we cancel ours. Don’t watch anything on any BBC channel anymore… live or recorded.

      Still use the news site 5 times a day and watch BBC produced content daily (though more and more via Netflix etc.). The cuts they’ve seen really has damaged the whole institution.

      I’d love to know how much they spend purely on sending overtly threatening letters to innocent people every month.

      I do think the bbc licence fee should be looked at better, I mean I think for one they run too many radio station and still pay salaries as if they have huge listeners, which have been dropping due to podcasts, audio books and on demand music. I think at the very least it should be cut in half and iPlayer becomes subscription based.

      People saying just throw the letters in the bin. My mum was caught in 90s for not paying, but she wrote them a letter saying she was pregnant with my brother and my dad was deployed with the army so it slipped her mind. They were looking for a big fine but luckily she ended up having to pay the normal amount rather than a big fine.

      And it isn’t a choice – they try to make every household pay because they assume everyone watches. They can charge but it shouldn’t be an opt out service.

      BBC drama is no longer the top dog like it used to be. Now you have Apple TV making incredible original content, you have Netflix pumping out new stuff weekly, Amazon with a few really strong shows, HBO max coming to the uk next year, the bbc are trailing behind.

      I love getting the letters – each one is a reminder that I’m costing them money.

      I cannot wait for the day they maybe eventually send someone over.

      I even got one just before Christmas; ‚Your case has escalated. We may attend on Christmas day!‘.

      I am happy with a lot of kids shows here. All the four blocks did wonders for my kid. Cbeebies is the only live I live unsupervised.

      Rest of it though is pretty basic. I really would love to know how much of BBC funding goes to Ceebies and such research.

      I think the BbC is worth paying for personally.

      The timing at which this comes out is also expected.
