When it comes to philanthropy, Billie Eilish has her money where her mouth is at the moment.
The Grammy winner recently accepted the Music Innovator Award at the Wall Street Journal Magazine Innovator Awards held in New York City.
Late night talk show host Stephen Colbert thanked her right before for allowing him to “break some news.”
“This is extraordinary,” Colbert said. “Billie Eilish will be donating proceeds from her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour to support organizations, projects and voices dedicated to food equity, client justice, reducing carbon pollution and combating the climate crisis. That donation, ladies and gentleman, is $11.5 million.”
Eilish then took to the stage to accept the award and had some words for the billionaires in the room, which reportedly included Mark Zuckerberg.
“We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark and people need empathy and help more than kind of ever, especially in our country,” she said. “I’d say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, maybe give it to some people that need it.”
Eilish then added: “Love you all, but there’s a few people in here that have a lot more money than me.”

Give it away? They need to spend it on things that don’t enrich themselves or there partners. As fast as they make it they need to spend it like everyone else living pay check to pay check.

I love these articles because they all frame it as „EILISH SLAMS ZUCK TO HIS FACE“.
I’m not going to defend Zuckerberg or Facebook. However the dude has a bunch of charities and foundations he and his wife runs, and Eilish is putting this $11M into her own „foundation“. She’s doing literally the same thing he’s doing.

Did she ever stop for a moment to think about these poor billionaires and their feelings?

Allegedly, the money she is donating was actually raised from her fans opting in to spend their money. Im not defending Zuck but he donated 75 million to a hospital in SF and a 2025 article lists hes donated 5.1 billion total and has pleged to give 45 billion to charity.

I mean I’m going to be honest. I think there ought to be some kind of rule that billionaires have to start helping the communities that they live in. Is your community need new hospital gear? The billionaire should be buying it. If the city or state can’t. These guys should be helping fund building new cities. Repairing lead pipes. Upgrading infrastructure. If they pay and help, then they get the tax deductions.

Imagine being wealthy enough that you get to tell the wealthy to give away their wealth while giving away your wealth but you’re so wealthy that even when you give away your wealth you’re still wealthy.

They shouldn’t need to choose to give away their money.
They should be obligated to through taxes.

That’s nice, but I highly doubt any billionaire would just be convinced to donate money and not be a billionaire anymore because Billie said so, legislation change is what is actually needed.
Billie also is not donating from her own money, her tour was selling some tickets at extra high prices, and the extra money her fans paid is what is being donated. Billie lost nothing here

I just want them to pay their taxes.

She’s worth, or was, $50m and donated over $11m… more than 20%. And Zuck sat there giving zero fucks.

Agreed, we have forgotten that everyone, particularly the wealthiest among us, owes society a debt to charitable contribution.
The wealthiest among us want to go back to a time before widespread unionization, before the New Deal, and to the gilded age where most wealth was concentrated at the top.

At least the insanely wealthy during the Gilded Age donated tons of money to build libraries, museums, universities and other lasting projects that aimed to benefit everyone. But I guess buying another mega yacht, private jet or more mansions the nobody will live in is pretty awesome too.
These billionaires today suck and sooner or later we will see these people sheltering in their bunkers from the civil unrest they’ve been all too happy to help create.
