      We all got our priorities wrong.
      Infectious diseases and climate change are much bigger threats than anything else on the list.

      Results over 65% is much assumed to be „everybody, essentially.“ Because there will always be extremes and outliers, 11% if I remember right. Now its over 2/3rds of people in Europe who think disinformation is dangerous. Great.

      Now what does each respondant *mean* when they say they’re concerned about disinformation?

      Lol @ the fear for spreading disinformation online, meanwhile people share literal lies on social media like their lives depend on it and which often can be disproven with a quick Google search.

      For Poland, let me bring up one statistics that show the scale of disinformation Poland is targeted with:

      After the Russian drone incursion into Poland from September 9-10, it’s been estimated that more materials online pointed at Ukraine rather than Russia for the one that is responsible for the incident.

      I feel in context of most numbers being above 50, the super-lows are much more interesting than the peaks. Why are Germany and Sweden of all countries so unafraid of diseases? Sweden I even kinda understand, they had their unique reaction to covid and it worked out quite well in the end, but Germany being even lower? 😀

      Notice how even though Turks fear basically everything more than everybody else does, the fear rate of online misinformation is the lowest in Turkey. That’s because social media is considered a more reliable source than regime owned media (which is almost all traditional media), even by regime supporters.

      I remember how, during the protests, regime news outlets would just show a different part of the city with much less people protesting and would never display the millions actually on the streets. That led to everyone, including regime supporters, starting to get their news from social media or opposition media.

      There were some Romanians cheering that China required diplomas to talk on certain subjects. But I don’t think they would be allowed to give their 2 cents on any politics because they don’t have diplomas, and the biggest far-right shills online are actually people with university diplomas. BigM has a history diploma and it doesn’t stop him from denying the Holocausts (including the Romanian one).

      I think it’s time for Countries to put an end to bots and propaganda and penalize bad actors and company who promoted them.

      You can’t put those on TV or Radio, internet is no different.

      It’s funny how spread of disinformation is overall the biggest fear, yet there is nothing being done about it. At least not visibly. It’s a complete non-issue for the politics in my country (Belgium).

      I agree though. I think it’s the biggest factor in the decline of democracy. At least some basic regulations like KYC for social media platforms would be a good starting point. It’s mandated for all banks to operate in Belgium. Why not for Social Media platforms? Let people prove who they are before spouting nonsense for millions to read.

      Anonymity on the Internet is great and should be kept, but not when you’re influencing others.

      In in Italy they don’t even understand the concept of climate change like a big deal, the opposite of the UK. These charts are junk, most of them, just digital pollution.

      Europe has every right to be afraid of misinformation. Russian bots are everywhere.
