It would be insane to have another election! Parliament wouldn’t resume until January, it would throw away all current bills and pushing the budget to spring. We dont have time to lose another 4 months
Here’s a radical idea, they could work with another party on the budget that will pass in the HOC… if they’re trying to act like a majority government in a minority situation then it’s a sign of arrogance.
The people handed Carney the mandate of dealing with Trump, not cutting services and ballooning the budget. So far all he’s done is concede everything to Trump and still no deal. It isn’t a far fetched idea that this government has no backers because the other parties smell blood in the water.
I can’t believe the opposition parties think Carney is afraid to stand on a budget that delivers even a handful of his promises. The guy is what? Three seats short of a majority and these dummies are looking for baubles? Give him the dice already
This article seems much more bullish on the NDP voting against the budget than the CBC one posted earlier. Both make the case that the NDP caucus is very disorganized and divided, which is an interesting (if unsurprising) insight.
If I was the Libs I’d be worried tbh. None of the other parties have anything to lose. The CPC has no power, in spite of all the seats, and philosophically refuse to work with Carney in spite of him being a conservative. The NDP is at rock bottom, and allowing an austerity budget to pass would be an awful look for them to their dwindling base, especially after years of supporting the unpopular Liberals is what got them into this mess. The Bloc never really has anything to lose. Carney has to compromise with someone here or risk an election, which, while they’d likely be the favourite to win, is far from a sure thing
It is either pass it or suffer the setback of an election.
There is no way the other parties form a coalition to govern if it fails.
With the way things have gone the Libs may get a majority in a new election. No other party has generated any momentum.
