Nepotism opens the door
Let’s not pretend like he didn’t get Superbad in part because James Franco worked with Seth Rogen and Apatow. It opened doors for sure. No point in denying it other than ego.
Oh give me a fucking break. The issue isn’t that you can’t do the job, it’s that otherwise deserving people aren’t even given the opportunity to attempt to do so while you were just handed it on a silver platter.

The whole point is that it opens the door. There are so many talented hard working actors and the only difference is that no one knows them and they have no way of getting mg a foot in the door.

You get to be mediocre. Everyone else without connections needs to be exceptional. Must be nice.
Getting your foot in the door is the biggest hurdle in a successful position, no matter what it is. Out of the millions of people who COULD do what he does, what are the odds he was just the best one? Astronomical is the answer. Just be an adult and admit your connections got you there and your talent kept you there. people will respect the honesty.

It certainly opened that door, but he absolutely had the chops to stay in. Especially with the issues with James, he rose above and didn’t let it tarnish his career.
I don’t know if I’d say Dave is a *better* actor than James, but he definitely deserves his spot.
His brother definitely opened some doors, but they’d have slammed shut if he wasn’t a decent actor.
