If you are starting from effectively zero then any increases will be a significant percentage improvement

Cool, but „880%“ sort of over-represents the low starting point of a fairly new-to-us brand. VW sold around 25k vehicles in Sept for comparison.
Still, a *very* noteworthy market share.

They make nice affordable modern cars. Only way is up.
I test drove a BYD – the price point and massive amount of standard features was very attractive, but, it drove like a sack of potatoes on large floaty springs.
That said, in a few years, I suspect that our roads will be coated with BYD/Omoda/Jaecoo cars because they are so cheap vs the German competitors that have become fat and arrogant in their years.
I got a Seal Excellence as a company car. It’s absolutely lovely to drive. Insanely fast, comfortable and great tech. Interior is nice and I’ve had a number of nice German cars before to compare it to. Same kit and performance in bmw or audi would be a lot more, like 30% more.
Despite many people’s dislike to the CCP, the truth is that our wallet is the most powerful thing that dictates the way we live and what we buy. We are happy to choose whatever car we want as long as our wallet agrees and for most people their wallet is disagreeing at the moment.

When I visited china, the taxi driver bought his family sized EV for only £6k, and so he can lower his fare to ridiculous amounts. That half an hour drive only cost £3, which was cheaper than what I paid in India.
Sample of 1 but I am likely to replace my Tesla with a BYD in a couple of years if they continue their progress. I went in one last night for the first time and it was very nice – seemed less high tech than my Tesla but ride was better and while both are fast neither is exactly the last word in dynamic capability.
Whichever’s cheapest wins probably, now that picking Elon is no better than picking the CCP.
I saw an article the other day regarding brand loyalty. When it came to ICE cars brand loyalty was high however EV was a different matter, it dropped below 20%.
You can pick up a Jaecoo for under £30k with a 7 year warranty, comes with more options as standard and seems to be pretty reliable. Compare that to the Euro brands and you can see why they’re only going to become more popular.
It’s nothing new in a way – Japanese brands disrupted the market in the 80s/90s, Korean brands in the 00s/10s, and now Chinese brands today. European manufacturers will still have their place, just as they did with the previous market changes, but they cannot be complacent.
