I see a lot of online „Eastern Europe“ aesthetic stuff, things like Molchat Doma edits, squatting Slav memes, POV: Eastern Europe urban decay TikToks etc. It’s kind of been meme-ified internationally
I’m curious how locals feel about it. Sometimes it feels like outsiders romanticize that grey socialist look while locals see it as just everyday life or even want it gone
Is there nostalgia for the architecture/socialist-modernist era?
Is it seen as part of Kosovo’s identity or mainly a relic of Yugoslavia?
How does it compare to the newer developments?

All communists architecture is devoided of artistic expression and passion, it clearly reflects the hearts and minds of communist, brutalist, and effective to the bear minimum. Depressing to even look at.
We have no clue about city planning. That‘s why in 20 years we will have no „old city“ left, since everyone and their grandmamas are destroying the old buildings and putting 20 story buildings instead with no plan to increase the infrastructure for those buildings.
I mean, you also can see the difference between Albania and Kosovo for what concerns infrastructure. Yugoslav infrastructure was planned by some of the best engineers in the world and they built lots of stuff in Africa, still working to this day. Kosovo had reasonable urban planning (even though flawed and definitely worse than in the richest republics), while Albania was a complete mess (this is especially reflected by Tirana whose planning doesn’t make any sense. Roads were and still are disastrous in Albania. It took 20 years to build a vital road like Rruga e Arberit (50 km), shortening what was a 10 hour trip in communist times to one hour. Meanwhile, Kosovo under Yugoslavia had a decent road connecting Skopje to Prishtina, in a land as mountainous
Pre-independence Kosova urban planning wins only because of the green spaces between buildings, otherwise it gives me a soulless communist vibe

Ja kanë qr fare. Në vend të merrnin shembull nga Tirana që u shkërdhye nga të katra anët në „demokraci“, edhe Prishtina po njësoj, vk sa e urrejmë veten!
Menjehere pas lufte per Prishtinen ka pas plan per kete pune, prandaj mafia e ndertimit e pat vra njeriun kyç ne kete pune.
Ndertesat e kohes jugosllave ndoshta nuk jane aq te bukura nga stili, por vetem shikojeni sa bukur me plan, gjelbrimi, rruga.
