    1. Despite her landslide win and the US‘ strong ties with Ireland, there was little in way of congratulations from the White House or Donald Trump.

Whereas Trump was quick to congratulate his Argentine counterpart, Javier Milei, on his “landslide victory,“ and congratulated Takaichi Sanae on winning the race to become the leader of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party, he has kept silent about Connolly’s win.

    2. It is a ceremonial role. The real leader is the Prime Minister(Taoiseach) Michéal Martin.

      >Conor McGregor

Who, to be clear, didn’t have enough support to run in the election even before being found guilty of rape

If that drugged up cunt MacGregor appears in the white house next St. Patricks day, I actually give up…..

The absolute worst person in the world from Ireland. An absolute fucking eejit…..

So Trump favours a violent, misogynistic, lying, drug taking psychopath and America thinks he’s fit to lead their country 🤦 FFS the people who voted for Trump truly are as dumb as bricks.

Why should you award any decent human (and a woman, at that) a polite amount of attention when your #1 foreign policy goal is to have kleptocratic neo-fascists traitors rise everywhere

That Khabib didn’t in fact end McGregor’s career when to all intents and purposes it looked visibly (and emphatically) like he’d ended his career is so disappointing.

Why does America think we give a shit? Lmao. That’s how you know americans are long beyond saving if they think this is remotely relevant on a democratic vote

The fact that Trump and the whole White House were Publicly backing Connor says it all really. Christian values….? ,cheating, violent, drug abusing raper .

This doesn’t vibe well with the narrative she’s a putin puppet. Shouldn’t trump love her?

    14. Obligatory pedantry: McGregor didn’t drop out of the Presidential race. He couldn’t meet the criteria to run (needs to be nominated by 4 local authorities, or 20 TDs/senators).

All that aside, I don’t think an educated, leftist, egalitarian, climate-change activist, female barrister is exactly Trump’s *type*; so I’d be more surprised if he had congratulated her.

    15. She is a strong woman. So naturally Trump and his gang are afraid of her. They revert to their lack of character and class.

The Irish don’t need the attention from the likes of Trump. The Irish stand proud of their new President.

    17. As a full blooded Irishman born in Dublin, all I gotta say is HAHAHAHA. FUCK McGregor and Trump

    18. Irish person here:

      * This source is a US media outlet and not Irish
      * Connolly is the president elect and not president yet until ~~January~~ November 11th when swore into office
      * No leaders of other countries have offered congratulations or contacted Connolly, that will happen in November when she becomes President of Ireland
      * Conor McGregor was NEVER in the presidential race in Ireland, he just said he was as if that made it true
      * The White house or Trump has not snubbed Connolly after she got elected, AFAIK its not even been mentioned as it also has not in the UK, France, Germany etc

This article is a non story.

The Japanese and Argentinean leaders mentioned in the Article have taken office and so got international messages congratulating them.

    19. Of course, Trump’s idea of a proper Irish president would be a brain damaged rapist.
