I can’t access the article but it’s about time, in many cities kids cannot walk back home by themselves anymore, and at dusk and dawn there are more and more bear spotted very close to the city, and some old people got attacked from behind around 5am while walking outside.
Let’s not wait for any more tragedies please

So you’re probably thinking, how do we get rid of the bears? Well over in Korea, there’s a species of burrowing lizard which eats bear cubs in their dens. But oh, you say- then aren’t we stuck with burrowing lizards? That’s when we import gorillas from Uganda, who see the lizards as a form of mobile steak.
Now you’re probably saying, „but now we have gorillas all over Japan, isn’t that worse than bears?“, and that’s the beautiful part. In the winter the gorillas simply freeze to death.

Time for Silverfang to assemble his posse.
I bet you Akakabuto is directing all these attacks from his lair in the mountains.

Finally! This is the proper way to handle. Especially after local hunters union got fucked over by incompetent local lawmarkers!

Just wondering if…I’m just „minding my own business“ and get attacked by a bear or oh look at the bear I want to get close to it, maybe I can pet it.

Bear attacks news coming out of Japan have been crazy for a few years now, decreasing population makes bears more likely to go into populated areas and tourists attractions, a Spanish tourist got attacked in Shirakawa village, and there’re attacks reported every few days.
Many hunters are old and restricted by bureaucracy and laws (because now they have to shoot bears in populated areas) and the experienced bear hunter like matagi also are few in number , but not everyone who knows how to shoot is willing to put themselves in danger to take this thankless job.
And there’re crazy animal lovers who call to berate and harass government agencies, government of Akita(the local government that call army for help) openly said those people should give them their address so they can send bear to them.

We have hunters here but the governor of that prefecture is such an asshole that he ordered no firing guns unless within 2 meters from the target, boss around disturbing them etc., no one would wanna help hunting those bears anymore and the asshole decided to ask the army to help.

Ah, that adds context. I was in Japan last week and visited Kamikōchi, an absolutely gorgeous mountain valley inside a national park. Every fifth person there was wearing a bear bell, which felt pointless – they’re meant to stop you from accidentally scaring a bear when you’re in the backcountry solo, but they serve no purpose when you’re surrounded by a dozen talking people at all times.
Just incredible scenery accompanied by this constant background noise of *jingle jingle jingle*.
