Being a Dane, finding 4% HIGH – and then looking at other countries… 😔

Wow up to 34 years ?!

So religion (or family conservatism/habits) and rent/property access are somewhat big factors. Along with country support system for young ones.

Nice that they had no data for Iceland but still wanted it to feel included.

    4. I’m still officially check-in in my parents home, despite living somwhere else for 15 years 🙂 thats the miracle of data from Poland…

Yeah I make 700€ and live with my parents. I save as much as I can and even that’s like 300 per month, 400 at most. If I moved out I wouldn’t be able to save at all.

Like in under every post like that:

Polands data is not accurate as people in Poland do not care about main address registration. Most young people move out in early 20s. They live in rentals and you don’t register your addresses in rentals in Poland (you can but it’s not common at all) so I would say that this number for Poland represents the percentage of young adults that for sure do not own their own place more then the percentage of adults that still live with their parents.

I always wonder how much of that is cultural and how much is financial?

I moved away from my parents in my mid-twenties, and I felt like an avant-garde weirdo 🙂 My younger brother still lives with our mom even though he’s approaching 40.

To be honest the prices of renting or buying something are CRAZY in Croatia at the moment. My wife and I were lucky and managed to buy our apartment when the prices were ridiculously low compared to today.

The difference between France and Spain is astonishing. Not a catholic thing after all?

    10. For Belgium and other small countries, I assume the distances between parent’s home and an university are not long enough to justify renting an apartment explains some of it.

How many of the respondents here have ever built (or been the general contractor of) their own house? I have done that for all three houses that I have owned.

I don’t see anyone here complaining about government regulations that add to the cost or limit the supply of housing.

I own vacant residential land, have the necessary engineering & building licenses, and financial means to build a rental housing unit here in the USA. I planned to do that prior to Covid. But when I saw the government having a moratorium on tenants being evicted for not paying rent yet still requiring taxes to be paid (so government wasn’t willing to take any pain), I decided not to pursue that project. So that is one data point for the housing shortage – government interference.

    12. I think it’s a question of the development of support and care systems for the elderly in each country. If parents are unwell, they have to live with them.

The problem Slovenia has is that non skilled people are working jobs from 900-1200eur per month, So if they don’t want to work two jobs, they stay with their parents.

In Denmark you are regarded as a bit of a loser, if you aren’t independent asap. On the flipside our society is growing cold, the elderly get dumped and forgotten in nursing homes. I wish we were more like southern european countries in how we do families.

    15. Shit sucks. I’ve got ~1300€ per month salary, moved out 1st of September on my own this time, rent is 500€ + utilities. For a 37m² apartment but with a 12m² terrace thing, which is nice. That is even one of the better deals, but it’s on the west of the city and thankfully 15ish minutes from my work walking distance so I save there too. For reference it is Zagreb I live in.

Most people live on ~1050€ a month and basically can’t live alone unless they spend on ONLY the necessities. Dire situation in this country

Ireland has no rental supply and extremely poor standards and regulations for rentals, it’s an absolute bloodbath.
It’s nearly impossible for people to move out of their parents homes as there’s nowhere to rent and whatever is available is insanely overpriced.
