You will get your first paycheck one week after deployment, don’t worry about it

    2. „It’s not a general mobilization. That’s propaganda! It’s just that you will generally be eligible for mobilization. Any good Russian would agree that this is a fair way of sharing the burden of defending the motherland…..and if you don’t agree we will jail you for 20 years.“

      > Year-Round Military Draft

Is there another kind? A country that does a seasonal draft must not be serious about whatever conflict it’s fighting.

      >Under the legislation, draft boards will be able to conduct medical exams, psychological screening and other enlistment steps any time from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 each year.

      >However, **conscripts will still be sent off to service during the traditional spring and autumn draft campaigns between April 1-July 15 and Oct. 1-Dec. 31.**

So, Russia has mandatory military service for young men (similar to South Korea, Israel…etc), and the only change, according to the article, is they can do screening, medicals, etc. anytime, but the intake remains as it was. Russia has avoided any push back from nation’s mothers by not sending the draftees to the Donbas. Russia is using contract soldiers (and bonuses) to get the men it needs in the Donbas.

Looking through the comments it appears most people did not read the article…

TLDR: the intake is still twice per year for mandatory military service, but now they can do medical, screens, etc. at any time during the year. These draftees are not sent to the Donbas; that’s reserved for contract soldiers.

    7. Does anyone actually read the fucking article or try to find out even a tiny amount of information about the topic discussed??!?

This has nothing to do with the war.

Russia at this time has a twice a year regular conscription. This floods the medical exams, military offices, ect with a glut of conscripts that serve their regular 2 years.

This bill changes the system to a year-round system where draft notices will be sent to people year round and military offices won’t be overwhelmed with processing them all.

Btw this doesn’t have anything to do with war manpower. These are the same people that would have been conscripted just spread out over the whole year to ease processing. None of them btw serve in Ukraine, that’s an all volunteer/contract force. Conscripts can only be used inside Russian borders

    8. Probably about 5 regiments worth hiding in Thailand if you want to come get them?

    9. This is a big deal, but there’s nuance. These draftees are not deployed in Ukraine, although there are incidents of them being coerced into signing contracts, being deployed, and very quickly getting killed. These draftees are used to plug the manpower shortages on bases where the active military were deployed to Ukraine. The interesting part is that some of these draftees finish out their mandatory service, and again, are coerced into signing a contract. There’s no data on the percentage of those who end up signing a contract, so hard to say how this will impact Russia’s manpower, but the signal is clear – they are having a very hard time keeping the level of contract recruitment that’s required to maintain the war. Whether it’s budgetary or they’re just running out of men is irrelevant. This is clearly a signal that Russia is struggling to keep the war going.

I wont feel bad for them until their population wakes up to their own nightmare. Very little of their population seems to care, or even cheers on their violent crusade. If it takes the pretty city boys being drafted to wake them up, maybe that’s a good thing.
