I’ve met a lovely Hungarian woman vacationing in Croatia this year. She’s a retired teacher and explained that Orban built a web through many institutions. In order to get a job or keep your job, you have to be party member or „loyal“ so to say. Don’t know how far this goes.
It’s sad that one member state can be such a pain in the a**. We can only hope for a change next year. Russian influence was (and still is) crazy this year with Romania and Slovakia.
On another note: Should the EU expand further to the east again in the coming years we might see more of this Russian interference.

Orban should worry about his domestic polls that show him way behind the opposition leader Magyar, instead of planning future alliances that he will not be part of.
He’s going to be disappointed with Babiš. He started rowing back from the anti-Ukraine statements as soon as the polls closed. Yes, he’s corrupt, but he’s also pro-Western, pro-European, and socially liberal.

I honestly can’t understand what exactly we did that made some people dislike us so much. We didn’t start this war, and all Ukrainians dream of is the end of the war. We’ve even come to terms that it’s impossible to punish the aggressor, fucking hell. You can buy gas, buy oil, read tolstoevsky, watch rusky ballet or whatever you think makes you an intellectual. Truly the Axis of Losers is forming. Every incompetent loser country, harboring resentiment towards the more successful in any way countries will now hope to swipe the figures from the chessboard. Iran, NK, Russia, Venezuela, failed Hungarian empire etc.
What is alarming, is that civilized countries still have no effective tools to deal with loser bullies around them. Appeasement doesn’t work, one would hope that this lesson was learned, but nope.
