Be prepared now for a rise in salaries as people see how much they are being shafted by employers. Total carnage ensuing but it’s been an employers market for years. What they will do is put up a salary range.

Mad that it took this long but glad this is finally coming in. I’m sure employers will survive this „tension“

    3. This is good news. I applied for an internal role recently and getting any information about the salary before I applied was like getting blood from a stone.

Tension when you find out how much they are going to hire the new idiot for

I will chime in with don’t be afraid to ever discuss your salary with Co workers. It is the most made up taboo ever.

Multiple times I’ve heard of people finding out they were getting paid less for doing more than someone else on the inverse.

Thing is this used to be a normal thing. And it didn’t cause the chaos that people think it will. Apart from anything else salary ranges are usually either so small that everyone is pretty much on the same. Or so wide that there’s a lot of reasons why people aren’t on the same. Trying to get further from a range can be like nailing blancmange to a wall.

Also the idea that most people are going to start kicking off over their salary, compared to others and it will turn into total chaos is possibly more of an internet take. Like there are plenty of people online who will shout about quit that job as the immediate answer to everything and think everyone should be arguing with their bosses all their working hours. In reality most people aren’t like that. In reality how many people are really going to start kicking off about where their current pay is? Not sure that’s actually a cultural thing in Ireland anyway.

A fair number of people now have an idea of where their pay sits in comparison. Is it chaos now? FYI you are entitled to challenged your employer about your pay now if you want to. You can try to negotiate your pay rise now if you want to. How many people actually do that? Have a think about why most people don’t and whether this changes any of that.

Ultimately it helps people know whether or not it’s worth applying for the job. Except it doesn’t, if it’s a wide pay scale and according to factors like experience. And also if you’re desperate how many jobs will it make much difference.

Just seems like this is being overplayed to make it sound like a ground breaking change that it sort of isn’t really.

There wouldn’t be tension if they hadn’t been using obscurity to screw people over.

Honest employers have nothing to fear.

We’ve been made to feel like salaries should be “private” and kept to ourselves, but the only person this serves is predatory employers.

You might make the case that some people “feel” like they deserve more than they get when they don’t but that’s why we hire managers. Cope.

All salaries should be public, like the property price register.

What tension? When I found out that a person on the same position recruited a year later than me was earning 60% more I very calmly handed my resignation. I was denied a raise and there was still one position open in job ads. HR calmly announced they want be pressed and I can go if I want after which our VP calmly fired that HR specialist for being calmly fucking stupid. Then he calmly called me stupid for agreeing to such stupidly low salary saying that our part time admin was paid more.

Yes. I can’t negotiate my terms.

    11. Article is a tad misleading. The goal of this Directive is primarily to combat gender pay discrimination. It’s not necessarily aimed at general access to information.

Will it make any difference? There will add a huge salary range that means nothing and nobody will be any the wiser.

Salary range: 30k to 150k. Wonderful.

    13. Fantastic news and long overdue. This has only benefitted employers. Welcomed change. There needs to be rules on ranges used.

I predict a barrage of unequal pay claims from women who discover they’re being paid half what their male counterparts are getting

My Mum loves to ask me about the job situation in Ireland. I live in the UK and there’s no way I’m putting myself through interviews for a job paying little more than minimum wage.

      This is great news.

In places with this law, what happens is the ads have huge salary ranges and descriptions that could apply to entry level and advanced jobs. This law needs to be very specific and prescriptive to work.
