I still have a hard time understanding how the Madagascar plan would have worked. Settling the Jewish population there might not have been too hard, but how would you go about removing the original population before?

Giving away indigenous land is ok apparently? Just not the place they have all their history.. weird tbh

    3. Would’ve been and absolute baller move to give them a chunk of Germany. Easily the best idea on the map.

Edit: upon further reading, this was a throwaway suggestion in one conversation with Ben Gurion, and was outright rejected instantly (on the grounds it would have fueled Nazi sentiment forever), so it was never a serious idea…

Including Madagascar is pretty wild. The plan there was to dispel Jews to the island and leave them to perish, not create a Jewish homeland.

Why they would go anywhere but their ancestral homeland is beyond me. Israel is pretty much the only place that makes sense.

I wonder how New Zealand would have felt about their entire country being transported to the opposite side of Australia?

Even when they aren’t just transparent deportation schemes, an unresolvable problem with most of these types of hypothetical Jewish „states“ is that they misunderstand the fundamental ideas behind Zionism as a nationalist movement.

Jewish nationalists and intellectuals didn’t want ***a*** homeland; they wanted what they percieved to be ***their*** homeland. Millions of Jews weren’t going to all just pack up and move to Madagscar/Manchuria/Darwin because somebody else decided that was where they should go. It was always going to either be Israel in it’s current location, or nothing at all.

    8. One of Churchill’s many ridiculous ideas was [an Arab-Jewish federation presided over by Ibn Saud](https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/israel-middle-east/articles/ibn-saud-fdr-future-jewish-state-michael-makovsky).

Love this part: „Churchill’s view of Ibn Saud evolved over time. In the 1920s Churchill thought him a Muslim extremist, but now considered him the “greatest living Arab,” who should be “Boss of the Bosses” or “Caliph” of his conceived Confederation. „

It’s funny how it was never on the table to just give them back the land and property that was stolen from them by Europeans. All of the answers involved stealing land from other people. If anything it should have been Prussia, which was completely depopulated anyway and given to Russians and Poles.

It’s a good thing they picked their current location where they get along peacefully with everyone around them. /s

Here I was thinking New Zealand was left out again…. But nope it was worse 🤣

    12. Might as well include the Dominican Republic, the only country that agreed to accept Jewish refugees at the Evian Conference in 1938.

They ended up with the shitiest land of all the options. Hardly any fresh water. Land that couldn’t grow crops. Surrounded by neighbours who wanted them dead.

    14. This map is wild. One lunatic issued a proposal (not always serious) which was rejected by an overwhelming majority. And somehow it stands here as a valid option. Some places were considered not by Jews, but by antisemites. How to get rid of them. E.g some nazis proposed to expel all Jews to Madagascar, before they made their final decision about holocaust.

No other option but Palestine was ever seriously considered by zionist movement.

This has been posted before and it is clearly now just an excuse to go full Jew hatred and talk about Jews.

World be like: here are the options

And the options are scorchingly uninhabited desert, sweltering jungles, ticking political time bombs, frigid wasteland, and *checks notes* Albania

    17. SignatureNo1267 on

I’m partial to either Alaska or Madagascar.
Africa isn’t a bad idea either.

    18. The two South American options are *hilarious*.

Tiny nation in the middle of the jungle next to the country all the Nazis fled to,

      Ooorrrrr

One of the most deadly places to try and live on Earth with more mosquitoe borne illnesses than you can shake a stick at.

Its really worth pointing out that none of these plans were really seriously considered. The Uganda Plan got perhaps the most traction but even then, its absurd to pretend like it had anything close to the legitimacy that Israel has as a Jewish state. Indeed, the proponents of it mostly thought that it would be useful as a jumping off point, as a place for the scattered Jewish diaspora to coalesce before returning to the actual homeland.

In other words, this map is disenguous and misinforms by suggesting that, but for a twist of fate, Guyana or Albania could have been a Jewish state instead of Israel.

    20. After the Holocaust a few of the survivors tried to go back to their hometowns to find their home taken over. They were beaten and murdered by their former neighbors. Thousands of survivors were killed
