Of course employees feel the pain. But Democrats ending the shutdown without being met on their demands (demands in the public interest!) is a surrender. Trump didn’t make good on his threat to massively fire employees in a shutdown not due to any court actions (he doesn’t give a shit about the law, and SCOTUS will support him anyways), but because of political optics (his own party dissented against it, rightly fearing public backlash).
Any surrender to Trump raises his legitimacy and will enable far worse actions on his part (including against government employees) than holding the line. Never appease dictators.

Democrats are fighting for working people. Unions can choose to do that too.

Ending ACA subsidy extensions at the end of the year will be catastrophic for tens of millions of Americans. The working class is going to lose insurance because they won’t be able to afford the premiums. The top earners, the billionaires, will receive tremendous tax breaks.

That seems kind of “fuck you, I got mine” of them.

Look at the facts. Democrats have a bill already to be voted on that would en the shutdown and provide for a budget that goes beyond Election day meanwhile The gop has no plan beyond the continuing resolution that would keep the government going for *checks notes* another two weeks at this point.

They should be against Republicans. Dems have one demand: fund healthcare. I feel like that’s not a hard ask to not let our people die of preventable diseases, but apparently feeding your masses is impossible because they wanted to demolish the white house.

The pentagon literally took a bribe to keep the military paid through this crisis. I hope republicans are planning on bribing the ATCs soon, because the federal workforce is about to hit a fucking wall, and having paychecks for the soldiers is only going to go so far when commerce grinds to a halt.

StreetwalkinCheetah on
Republicans seem to be winning the talking point that a “clean resolution” = “business as usual” without any acknowledgment that this was done before with budgets with less draconian cuts. Passing the CR will allow all the big beautiful bill’s cuts to go through for which somehow Democrat’s will assume all the blame somehow. It also seems to have paralyzed the Republican Party from doing even more terrible things while they shutdown the house so maybe there’s a silver lining in holding steady beyond healthcare.

This CNN article is very misleading. There is zero mention of either party in AFGE’s [statement](https://www.afge.org/article/its-past-time-to-end-this-shutdown/). CNN is just putting the blame on Democrats on their own.
