    1. interesting, wondering how the west will create sanctions for this.

per article: To facilitate payments without triggering Western sanctions, Vietnam and Russia reportedly set up a specialized scheme: money flows through joint oil-and-gas ventures instead of traditional cross-border banking channels.

In 1976, the communist N Vietnam absorbed the Republic of Vietnam (South) It is now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. It’s not great – they could even celebrate Tet, Vietnamese New Year, on different days between the 2 regions. Aside from them funneling Russia $$, I don’t care. Sukhoi’s suck compared to any US fighter, which means Vietnam won’t be competitive in any upcoming skirmish.
All socialist/communist nations should buy Sukhoi’s or whatever Temu China is peddling these days

    3. Russia doesn’t have 40 SU-35’s to spare right now… So I’m not sure where they’re going to get them from to pay Vietnam…

Might as well donate 8 billion to Russia lol. They’re never gonna see those planes

Vietnam is happy to be a western ally when China threatens them, but runs into the arms of the Russian-Chinese sphere when it comes to this arms deal. I hope the west remembers this next time Vietnam needs help protecting their political and economic independence against their eternal enemy China.

    6. The west needs to extend sanctions to countries not sanctioning. Starting with India.

Doesn’t look good but does Vietnam have any other choices? For example, would US sells F-16s for countries like Vietnam?

    8. If Vietnam is buying jets, they need to give resources to Russia. It’s my understanding that Russia is a huge oil producer, so how exactly does Russia giving jets AND oil wind up giving Russia resources? Unless Russia is actually importing oil from Vietnam – which would be bonkers if true…

    9. Haven’t seen this come up yet on a more reputable news source.

Regardless Russia is barely able to produce SU-35 for itself let alone any export customers. I mean how long now has Iran been waiting for their order? 3+ years now?

    10. Weird…. my F-4 Phantom just became flyable again.

      <an F-4 Phantom owner>. ^^^^probably

They aren’t really „dodging sanctions“ as the these sanctions are country specific (some sanction, some don’t…Vietnam doesn’t) – these aren’t UN sanctions.

      >**The Sukhoi design team has developed modernization packages for the aircraft to have a high level of commonality between its onboard systems and those of the Su-57**. If there is a plan for the future of the VKS and if there are to be export sales in the middle of the war with [Ukraine](https://www.19fortyfive.com/2025/04/marco-rubios-ukraine-test/), most of the Russian aerospace analysts agree that some combination of these two aircraft is probably what the Sukhoi organization will be proposing to customers in the future.

SU35 as a gateway platform for the SU57.
