As far as I’m concerned, we draw a dotted line around a bit of land and say „China, you can have an embassy here“. From that moment on, British law doesn’t apply inside the dotted line – which means planning regulations also don’t apply – which means china is free to build whatever they like.
The fact they volunteered to show us the plans to review and to make it in keeping with the area is a bonus – but they morally and legally didn’t have to.
I don’t really understand the furore about this embassy, it’s not like China doesn’t already have one and that every country in the world don’t already use their embassies for espionage anyway.
It’s naive to think this will have any impact at all.
With only a few amount of comments on here, I am unsurprised but still depressed with how gullible, naive, and easily lied to people are. It’s always going to be, „well, they did that, so what?/ Okay, it was worse under them!!“.
Clearly missed the entire point. This is about national security, this isn’t about a certain political party, because let’s be honest, they have all failed us. I was merely trying to spread some important information.
FYI, The goverjment will vote on this on the 11th December, before Parliment goes into Recess for the christmas break. Not a coincidence, Sstarmar and the Labour government are willing to give up our national security for a shitty trade deal they’ll most likely agree upon.
This sin’t a right/left wing issue, It’s a British issue, liberty issue. All I can think of are the thousands of British Hong Kongers who escaped HK during those awful riots. Now the CCP will have a much larger ground and base to perform „diplomacy“.

Let’s be honest. UK and the rest of the world have already kneeled down for Trump’s tariffs, while China fights back hard and Trumps chickens out.
If you have kneeled down once before, it’s not that hard to kneel down twice. Appeasement is not a new thing to the Europe.
There needs to be a clause that they give up the embassy if China ever invades Taiwan.
This absolutely should never be allowed. It’s the wrong location, let them build something further out. Not here. It’s absolutely some of the best real estate in London. It’s a historic site. It’s directly behind the tower of London and protests will always, cause gridlock.
Even the Romans knew to keep people out of the city. Absolute joke. If this goes through. The MPs voting yes have been bought and paid by the CCP.
IMO the redacted plans were 100% done to test the diplomatic / political waters. They could have put anything they liked on there; mark an area as a laundry room but then turn it into some high tech eavesdropping installation, but they deliberately submitted redacted plans as a political manoeuvre instead. Pretty smart really.
