My money is on Norma Foley as the next FF leader
It seems to me he would rather collapse the government than be removed as leader.
Feels like they missed their chance a bit. Surely it’s after Gavin pulls out you’d want the heave? Why wait several weeks, unless there’s more going on behind the scenes?

While the Gavin thing was a screw up, whoever comes for Martin would want to have their coup nailed on. Since becoming leader of FF and before in governments going back to 97, he has been a tough operator who has objectively had a stellar individual political career.
The fact that only some of them are talking about it is indicative of how out of touch they are as a party.
Its sentimentality thats keeping him in there.
Its damning that Fianna Fail are polling at 17%, where they were in 2011
I always felt he was a safe pair of hands and much preferred him as Taoiseach than Harris or Varadkar.
For the life of me, I cannot understand what possessed him to run Jim Gavin as a candidate in the presidential election.
Contenders for the FF leadership:
Jim O’Callagan,
James Lawless.
I’d be quite happy with either. Jim is very law-and-order / build new prisons / unleash the gardai upon scumbags, which urban areas badly need.
James Lawless is extremely bright, and really big on infrastructure and public transport. Also big on pivoting young people away from college and into the trades, especially women.
Jack Chambers not even at the races tbh. The only place I ever hear his name mentioned is as potential leader is on Reddit, and I’m _in_ FF!
He is a bluffer not a leader.

MM is going nowhere for the minute. He’ll see out his term as Taoiseach and then step away from leadership on his own terms or he’ll be ousted. The next FF leader will be more pro SF coalition.
FG on the other hand are in trouble. SH is going nowhere and he will lead them into the next GE which will be a disaster for them. FG’s big problem is that they have no credible successors in the wings and Harris is a busted flush.
If FF found a pair of balls between them to do Mickey, they could be dangerous and maybe get something done, but they dont even have a shrivelled husk of what once was a testicle, so they’ll do shit and this time next year Mickey will still be there
Thank Christ. His I-can’t-believe-it’s-not-Unionism f-cked up a chance to govern on a Republican ticket with SF at the last election.
Who in Fianna Fáil can truly say they too don’t have a tenant from somewhere in their past that they still owe €3,500 to?
