Interesting piece, but this part stood out to me:

>The winner, Annamie Paul, imploded within weeks, losing a byelection in Toronto Centre and leaving the Greens as the only federal party without its leader in Parliament.

It’s a little ironic for the author to act like the other registered parties that are smaller than the Green Party don’t exist. Perhaps he meant to say „the only federal party represented in Parliament but without its leader in Parliament“.

I read this piece earlier this morning and I was thoroughly uninspired to read the book, and left with serious questions about the author’s understanding of Canadian politics.

I’m not Green fan, and I actively dislike May, but this piece reeks of all the petty politics it accuses the Greens of. I feel very much this is a case of „when you point a finger at someone else, there are four pointing at you“. High-school environmental club elections? Oh I bet, and I bet the author was a contributor. 

The story about how May is Canada’s Jill Stein, and the federal Liberals our Harris is absurd. I’ve met many Greens and they could all tell me why a vote for the Greens was different than a vote for Stein, or why vote splitting on Vancouver Island is different from vote splitting in an American presidential election. When the author claims that no Green party member he spoke to could make such an argument shows his true colour’s; not the membership. 

Now, does the party need a massive recalibration? Yes. Are the problems he is pointing real? Yes.
