I want children, I just don’t have the space or money for children and I think it’s irresponsible otherwise

it wasn’t a difficult choice. I’m surprised that many want them. maybe in a country with healthcare

Yeah, and do they stick with that “early in life” decision or change their minds? Anecdotally (not worth much, I know) many young people I’ve known say “I’ll never have kids” till about 30. Then it becomes “someday, maybe.” Then at 35 they start trying, often having trouble because they waited so long.

The most anti-kid woman I’ve ever known is a joyous mother of three now. Speaking as a former young person, young people are nearly as dumb as old people. The real progress of aging is that the overconfidence of youth is gradually replaced by stubbornness age.

that being said the cost to have a kid now is north of 300k and a disability kid is over 1 million

I knew I didn’t want kids by the time I was 13 or 14. I knew I couldn’t afford them even if I did want them by the time I was 20. I’m in my mid-50s now and don’t regret it in the slightest.

Even people that want kids can’t afford them.

No responsible adult wants to bring kids into this world while they can’t even affort a house until their 30s.
Couple that with economic instability, reduction of social safety nets and job insecurity and you’ve got a recipe for demographic disaster.

There is no one simple way to tackle this problem. It will need a multi-prongued approach.
