Ronald Reagan, and some GOP organizations like the San Francisco county party and the California Young Republicans, publicly endorsed the No campaign.
This No campaign was also what led to the formation of the Log Cabin Republicans. (Pro Gay GOP group)
And interestingly enough, Modoc County, the strongest Yes county for this measure, was also the only county to vote No on Prop 14 in 1964, which repealed the Fair Housing Act and brought back housing discrimination.
The Making Gay History podcast had a great episode on this – Season 12, Chapter 5

No instructor should be open about their sexuality. It has nothing to do with the curriculum

The Yes voters should’ve had their marriage rights revoked. One of the main causes of bad stuff in this country is when bad people are not punished for bad behavior. The stick around and keep doing bad things. Sometimes that means that the South should’ve been forcibly occupied after the Civil War so that Reconstruction could’ve been truly enforced. Maybe we should’ve made being a fascist illegal? Since when has there been a good Nazi? And sure, there’s possible First Amendment issues, but democracy needs to be able to defend itself from un-democratic forces that want to overthrow peaceful society. Nazis cannot co-exist with a peaceful society because their ideology requires them to commit or support acts of violence directed at minority groups.
