    1. I don’t believe either candiate was a good call. Even the one I’d voted for, I had to hold my nose, being on the opposite end of a few of my principals.

      I’ve read a few reports this morning, there were more spoiled votes counted than for Connaly in a few consituencies. Including one with a message that thanked the counters for thier hard work.

    3. Imagine being anti-NATO when your country’s defence is pretty much entirely dependent on cooperation with NATO members.

      Connolly was always going to look like a terrible pick on the international stage, but she was a protest vote to a lot of people, and the Irish presidency is an entirely symbolic role.

      So yes, she is anti-nato, no, this will have absolutely no consequence on our policy regarding the military or anything nato related moving forward.

      It’s a bad look, but her only other competition, while potentially looking better to other nations, she is fundamentally and truly the exact opposite of what modern Ireland wants in a candidate.

      Congratulations to her and good thing presidents don’t have any real power.
