„Niemand wurde besser“: Wenn private Suchtbehandlungszentren Patienten in Gefahr bringen

Oh I saw this piece on *The National* last night. From the news clip, the manner in which that one particular private centre advertised its services, especially the soothing and serene environment was something else. There didn’t appear to be that much truth in their advertising, that’s for sure. The „treatment centre“ was nothing more than someone’s semi-detached house in some suburb in BC. And people pay tens of thousands of dollars to go to these places because they’re desperate for treatment. It’s sinful how some of these businesses can get away with this stuff.

Last night’s news piece mentioned that only Alberta and Québec have legislation governing such private treatment centres and that BC is now contemplating the same. I hope that the BC government does. I also wish that other provinces and territories follow suit. Safeguards need to exist for this kind of care. It’s pretty close to predatory behaviour in my books to be turning a profit off of a person’s ill health and misfortune.
