What was the point of the ad then? They can’t have expected it would bring Trump to the table, given his notoriously thin skin and total inability to take criticism. If you were going to back down the second he responded as anyone would have expected (which is to say in a volatile and stupid manner), then why bother with it at all.
He spent a fortune making the ad, and then pulls it when it has the OBVIOUS effect of bothering Trump. What did he think was going to happen?
