Oh, there will be „some“ losses all right. It’s call massive depopulation coming through the pipeline because Putin sent millions of future of Russia to their death when they could have married and started new families.
Running war time economy with sanctions largely cutting off trade with west will mean Russia will be in deep red financially for foreseeable future assuming it won’t go bankrupt again and the country implode.

Putin may not concede, but Russia’s economy certainly will. Here’s to hoping that the Russian population will find sanity, end this senseless invasion, and perhaps one day have a Democracy of their own.

Everyone should work together to bring Putin down economically and starve his war machine of funds.

Putin, do humanity a favor and put yourself and your cronies right on the front lines of Ukraine. The world may finally achieve peace afterwards…

Kinetic sanctions are turning Russia into a gas station that can’t export gas. Let’s see how long patriotic Russians keep fighting without pay.

I dont think India or China will play along with these sanctions. And they are the ones doing the heavy lifting for Russia.

The clock is ticking for Putin and the Russian economy. Ukraine, using its own domestically designed and manufactured weapons systems has crippled Russia’s refining capacity and transit infrastructure to the point where Russia is importing refined products. Chinese and Indian companies are scaling down the imports of Russian crude. So, 2 of Russia’s main rails for foreign currency revenue are dead or dying. Combine that with a war-footed economy that is no longer growing, high inflation, and a declining tax base, 2026 is not looking good.
More on the tax base – Russia went on a war footing, which means that its reserves are being used to bolster military manufacturing. Workers are leaving private sector jobs to work for the government, either making weapons or joining the army because that pays better than private sector jobs. All of these factory workers are a drain on the economy. About a million Russians emigrated, and these were mostly high-earning middle class workers with prospects outside of Russia. They no longer pay taxes. About a million casualties from the war – the dead can’t pay taxes and the wounded can’t work while still consuming public services. Russia’s army has swelled by a few 100,000, which again is an economic sink. Russia’s interbank rate is 17% and official inflation rate is 8%, so probably the real rate is much higher.
Bottom line, the Russian economy is in a death spiral. Even if they somehow win the war tomorrow and there’s no insurgency and everything is peaceful and quiet, the economy is still in a death spiral with no way out, since nobody would invest in Russia at the levels that are needed to pull them out.
Not to throw around economics jargon, but the technical tern for Russia’s economy is „fucked in the ass with a cactus“. This war isn’t stopping any time soon, but Russia’s ability to continue to manufacture weapons and supply its troops at the same level is degrading, and this degradation will accelerate. Check back in mid-2026, and the picture will be even less pretty.
