    1. This will end up costing $2bil and half of that will end up in Trump’s pocket.

    2. Snakesandrats on

You can build a skyscraper for $300 million.

There’s no conceivable way 1 ballroom should cost that much unless it’s literally covered in gold.

    3. It’s a fucking ballroom. What a ridiculous joke of a project by a hack developer and failed casino owner.

    4. MalevolentTapir on

A lot of money for some ugly useless garbage, would be cool if we had other functional branches of government who could stop them from defiling public property.

    5. Competitive_Yam7702 on

of course he will. So he can just divert the funds to his own pocket. Hes done it for years with the secret service.

    6. ACasualRead on

I want to see the price get bigger.

At this point, trump needs to just screw more of the country over so the obvious corruption gets too big and uncomfortable to ignore. Once most conservatives start feeling the financial weight ipof his actions, struggle to buy food and lose healthcare, then we will see everyone turn on this administration.

This so far is the best “let them eat cake” move I’ve seen any American politician make. Keep making it Impossible for the republicans to sweep under the rug.

    7. Those tariffs are really driving up costs. Damn. We should have elected better leaders.

    8. rayracer141 on

I’m going to cut government spending so I can spend it on a ballroom and bailing a buddy business in Argentina.

    9. Treacle-Bright on

What the **** kind of ballroom is this? You can build a whole new mansion for much less than that. Is he contracting out to his buddies that are giving him a kick-back?

    10. Own-Brain9658 on

But at least Americans won’t be able to feed their children cause their SNAP benefits are being cut from the shutdown.

    11. The last people to do this much damage to the White House were the British in 1814.

    12. TheBoosThree on

Taking food off your kids plates so he can build a gold-decked self-masturbatory event space to make himself feel like royalty.

    13. This is starting to look like either money laundering or some type of kickback

    14. Economy_Invite_5039 on

did someone check if one of his friends or family opened a „construction business“?

    15. Diligent-Engineer428 on

Of course he raised the price, he’s going to pocket that extra 100million

    16. nannerbananers on

They keep saying its being „paid for with private donations“ like its a good thing. I don’t want random secret rich people paying for construction on one of our countries most treasured landmarks. It makes me concerned about their motives and what they are gaining from this transaction.

    17. Rusalka-rusalka on

This is going to go well for all of us. A multi-million dollar white house renovation on a whim while people’s SNAP benefits are cut just before the holidays. Even if he’s paying for it (supposedly), the optics are just bad.

    18. invalidpassword on

And millions of Americans won’t be able to afford a Thanksgiving dinner. Who thought it was good strategy to rub in our faces how rich Trump and his brown-nosers are?

    19. LifeofRiley72 on

Who gave this ungrateful Republican unlimited control of the purse. There are real Americans in need of help. The republicans responsible for this arrogant abuse in spending need to be held accountable.

    20. ***But he’s paying for it himself.***

Meanwhile, also DJT… “ the DOJ owes me $230m – and I have final say if it gets paid to me „

    21. PaddlefootCanada on

How much of that is kickbacks, do you think? How rich is the Trump family getting…

    22. $350 million for the ballroom

$250 million for the lawsuit of the DOJ

      $40 billion for Argentina

Is this correct in what I’ve been reading over the past week?

    23. justfanclasshole on

They are gonna pilfer over $1billion for this thing with crooked construction accounting just watch.

    24. RedLanternScythe on

He did that with the cost of the wall in his first campaign.

There is a good chance the next president has a gaping hole in the white house. And yes, I do mean if Trump never leaves office.

    25. RegularMidwestGuy on

“Look, we have always said it’s going to be 500 million, and with the current radical democrat obstruction it’s making costs go up. It shouldn’t be more than the 800 million we always said it would be. No one builds better than me, very classy. Shouldn’t be more than 900 million when all is said and done. I’m paying for this myself, by the way, very generous. They said ‘sir, let us pay for it, you do too much for us’ so I said ok. I’ll let the taxpayers pay the 1.2 billion for the expansion. It’s coming along so well, so much better and frankly faster and cheaper, than anyone would believe. Just under 1.4 billion. Tremendous work.”

    26. I wonder how the next sane president is supposed to fix this abomination. It’ll be weird if taxpayer dollars are directly used for that purpose.

Are we just going to be stuck with the structure and then maybe move the chairs around and change the moulding?

It really should be partitioned and created into a two floor office space. Maybe leave a small section for banquets?

    27. LengthyNIPPLE on

He’s bankrupting the U.S. Just like he did all of the previous companies he ran into the ground

    28. Remember when he tried to chastise the fed chief for the rising cost of his new buildings?

    29. morbidlonging on

The mockups for this travesty are hilarious. It’s looks like the Parthenon next to a cape cod cottage built in 1812. It completely dwarfs the White House and looks stupid as fuck!

Plus the demo isn’t even done and it’s already ballooned in price? Uhh okay! We don’t have money to protect our most vulnerable Americans but we definitely have enough for cake and gold construction!

    30. It’s the Epstein Memorial Ballroom. Call it that until Trump blows a valve.

    31. 1. Savvy business people don’t design projects that have a 50% increase upon ground breaking.

      2. 90,000 square feet. What are the operating costs for the finished structure and who will pay (HVAC, electrical, cleaning, maintenance)? We the taxpayers will pay for this.

      3. How many „balls“ does one throw per year and what is the food and service cost for each event? We the taxpayers pay for this.

      4. Who will be invited to these fetes? Grovelling industrialists looking for favors, mega wealthy donors, puppets on display to illustrate the president’s exaggerated accomplishments? No average Americans will ever sit at those tables unless they serve a purpose to the administration.

      5. Let’s not forget Trump said the ballroom won’t even touch the east wing. Now it will be demolished.

**SueMe the fourteenth** is funding this gilded monstrosity by continually suing anyone who ever dared challenge him. Now, he’s suing we the taxpayers for $230 million (the DOJ, so Pam Bondi will settle it on him despite the fact that boxes of documents were, in fact, taken to Mar a Lago and Archives asked for more than a year for the return before turning it over to DOJ. 2020-2023 still lying – there are videos)

    32. thatoneguy889 on

Remember when he was calling for Powell to step down for mismanagement because the Fed renovations went over budget? He should call for the head of the White House to step down.
