Considering how the crime rates amongst foreign nationals is way lower than Japanese nationals when normalized by age, I guess they’ll have to change the current rules in order to have enough people to punish and please the racist voters.
Btw, I think it’s pretty funny how whenever the “foreigners are committing crime in Japan” topic comes up, they never mention American soldiers. I wonder why.
I literally don’t see what’s wrong with investing in a legal framework where there was none before. It’s going to result in less illegal immigration, better avenue for qualified immigrants, and less people being stuck in limbo in detention centers

The issue is an extension of what happened during COVID (permanent resident holders weren’t allowed to enter Japan -we carry special diseases or something?) and this lovely specimen pushed for all foreign tax payers to be exempt from any government hand outs.
So all foreigners in the eyes on the locals will be illegal benefit stealing criminals,meaning more than usual side eye glances and probably (government mandated) police id searches to flush out the undocumented immigrants
