    1. > To build the Canada we want for ourselves, we have to make responsible choices and bet big on Canadians.
      > We’re going to cut waste and spend less on government operations – so we can make the big investments that will grow our economy and create new opportunities for Canadians.

Translation: Austerity so that more money can be given to corporations. :/

This is definitely not the Carney most of us believed we were voting for.

Liberals have been talking about making generational investments for at least the last 3 budgets and this is what has been achieved for younger generations:

Highest youth unemployment in decades with the exception of during COVID,
      Highest demand at food banks,
      High cost of living,
      Surging inflation,
      Lack of access to employment,
Shut down of factories and manufacturing plants,
      Surge in crime

Wouldn’t hold my breath for this speech tonight.

Can you imagine if he announces his all important economic plan tonight and then says he’s unable to achieve it with a minority government, so he calls an election? Poilievre is weak right now due to infighting and the NDP is leaderless and broke, so he could see a path to a solid majority government. 1% chance of it happening, but it would be amazing.

EDIT: Wow, I can’t believe I’m getting downvoted for this comment. It’s a joke, people. Politics is supposed to be fun, so lighten up.

Did he take questions from the students at least? Young people are very anxious about the adverse economy they’re facing. It would have been reassuring to take questions from them.

This sounds like election pitch, weird he’s doing that. Last year budget was so bad that freeland resigned and Biden was president, they cannot keep blaming trump on everything.

    6. Carneys talk is cheap thats my take
I dont believe a thing he says
He’s talking to young audience not seasoned people who know saying sounds good but doing its another

      My political take is this:

I don’t believe Mark Carney wants to pass a budget full of compromises which leads to a nothing burger of a budget. If you look to the UK, this is what’s happening under Starmer (although within his own party) and it’s resulting in the country and the governing party being damaged.

Because of this, I believe (and I might be wrong) that this will be a whopper of a budget. Now although that’s what’s needed, any real revolutionary/substantial budget will always be unpopular/painful in the short term, but be beneficial and yield results mid – long term. If a budget could be made that was popular short term, and yield benefits long term, then it woulda been done already; the reality is such a thing doesn’t really exist.

Now I believe every single opposition party wants this budget to pass. No one’s really in a good position for an election, and there are probably contents many parties wouldn’t mind being passed, but they don’t want to be the ones to do it.

The issue is, no one wants to be the party that gets this bill passed. Everyone realises that if they help pass the budget, then they would be giving political capital to the other opposition parties that didn’t back it over the short term unpopularity this budget could cause. However, if they all don’t back it, then it’ll be more damaging to the opposition parties than the liberals, and would also cause an election.

So because of this, I believe Carney did today’s address to try and create public pressure for political unity over this budget so that he can ideally make it pass. However, if it does fail, by trying to create such public pressure he can frame the opposition as playing politics over the good of the country, help setting him up an election.
