Already 50% over estimate and they haven’t even completed demo. Definitely a Trump construction project.

    2. It’s been a day, it was 250. What I said yesterday is happening even faster than I could’ve guessed.
      >Oh that price is lowballing it so bad. Before trump and his cronies have pocketed their share, it’s going to be at least four times that. That project is going to bleed money like a sieve.

“We’re just gonna go ahead and demolish the whole thing and make it better.”

The only good thing is that demolishing it will be cheaper since its likely being built using substandard construction.

Its Trump! Most of the money will probably just be pocketed and only a small amount used in construction.

I was in the east wing this time last year. Very historical and beautiful. Never would have guessed a year later this would be going on.

Besides all the optics and timing of this, the worst part is that these are not the actions someone is taking if they plan on leaving in ~3 years.

I read today that the east wing was built mainly to cover the bunker. Trump’s probably trying to make a crazy opulent bunker so he can go hide down there while the country burns.

    8. It somehow makes sense to me. Everything else is in shambles, so it’s a poignant symbol of where we are at.

The only good thing about these Trump monuments (assuming he also builds his ridiculous arch) is that it’ll give ‘the people’ something to tear down when this shit is all over.

    10. Huh. $300 million. That’s about the same amount Trump cut from cancer research. Weird priorities.

Soon the West wing and residential will be demolished. Trump is going to turn into the Gold House

Do these actions sound like something a President would do if he had 3 years left in his term?

Wake up america. He isnt planning on leaving

Just a few months ago Donald Trump was saying golden enshrined s*** of a ballroom wasn’t even going to touch the existing buildings. Trump said the existing buildings would be untouched…

A few weeks later we’re watching the demolition of the entire East wing….

    14. He will collect $900 million in bribes for it.

      Pay no contractor.

      Sue the contractor for libel.

      Spend $50 mill on construction.

And it will be tackier than any mid level drug dealer’s leapord skin man cave.

The Trump family property should be seized when this is all over to pay for mitigation of at least a tiny fraction of the damage this criminal caused, and to pay somebody to scrub Trump’s stench out of the White House walls.

Is nobody else concerned that the people of the United States own The White House? It’s not his, votes should have been approved

    17. Remember when he staged his visit to the Fed and tried to call Jerome Powell out for construction cost overruns *checks notes* a few months ago

    18. OnePercentVisible on

Pretty soon it will be 500 million and when they audit it 150 million will be missing funds!

History will not remember the ballroom; it will remember the wreckage.
The marble gleam, the music, the laughter—
      All built on borrowed hunger.
While the President begs the public purse to fund his grand hall,
SNAP benefits are cut at dawn—
      Families trading dignity for dinner,
Counting coins as chandeliers are hung.

      Forty billion sails to Argentina,
While American farmers kneel in fields of dust,
Their hands empty, their harvest unsold.
      ICE sharpens its teeth,
Two new jets crown Homeland’s vanity,
And the nation’s soul shrinks behind steel and smoke.

      Inflation stalks the kitchen table,
      Turning wages into whispers,
      Dreams into debts.
The government sleeps in its own silence—
      A shutdown masquerading as resolve.
And abroad, the world watches, unamused,
Trust splintered like glass beneath a gilded heel.

      Still, the music plays.
They toast their triumph in the ballroom above the ruins,
      Oblivious to the ache below—
      All to “own the libs.”
