    1. Full question : “Do you approve the Foundation Agreement with all its Annexes, as well as the constitution of the Greek Cypriot/Turkish Cypriot State and the provisions as to the laws to be in force, to bring into being a new state of affairs in which Cyprus joins the European Union united?”

Strange. Why bother being separate when they’re both sharing an island.

Damn don’t you hate when people just immigrate en masse and now you have to deal with them because they’ve been living there for a while.

Really sucks now doesn’t it there’s two political entities in this small country that don’t get along

Greeks does NOT want unifocation based on equality. They want annexation.. even the most leftist turkish cypriots dont want unification if there is no equal power . So basically İsland will stay like that forever.

Why would Cyprus want to annex. Cyprus is a rich EU country, not Germany or Nordic, but closer to Italy than to Greece, while Northern Cyprus is a backwards Turkish colony closer to a Balkan or a Latin American country. It’d basically be a mini-German reunification, but involving two antagonising ethnic groups.

Besides, since Northern Cyprus is a colony/occupation by Turkey, an non-democratic country, giving legal powers to them would make them a headache for democratic Cyprus, and Turks are notoriously difficult to deal with in the EU. There’s not a lot of them, but enough to trigger a mini migration crisis. Plus, Greece might not be happy on letting a minority that might block its ideals of enosis with Cyprus get legal voting powers, neither does Turkey, as it’d lose a colony/occupation and the subsequent emigration would reduce the Turkish presence on the island, even if it gains a backdoor to an EU country.

So based on the comments, as someone who is admittedly uninformed on the history of Cyprus, I got the vibe of this being a very clear one sided conflict with Turkey essentially ferrying in settlers being how this started.

As I actually read about the conflict from multiple sources, I have since learned that yes while there have absolutely been settlers in North Cyprus in recent years, Turkish Cypriots have been a sizeable minority for centuries and a major factor in the eventual Turkish invasion of the North was Bloody Sunday which saw ethnic violence on both sides but the Turkish population arguably suffering more and over 25,000 (of a fairly small population) being displaced.
That’s not to portray Turkey as some hero here as they did essentially refused reasonable offers for reunification even after the extremist right wing Cypriot government wasn’t in power anymore. However this isn’t a black and white thing and im glad I didn’t blindly trust the comments here. Pathetic even by Reddit standards.

Lol, think we can all agree, maps like this ain’t just about geography.

    8. The invading force wants to invade further while the native population doesn’t want to be invaded? Who could’ve seen this coming?!?!?
