I think the writing is on the wall, every day Poilievre sticks around is another day the party is tied to a sinking anchor.
He’s literally the CPC’s version of Trudeau at this exact moment last year.
MacDougal told lies professionally for Harper, so whatever he says is suspect. In this case, like his friend Soudas, he is involved in historical revisionism and an attempt to rehabilitate Harper’s reputation from essentially the Pierre of his time to a respected elder statesman with gravitas, whose counsel is sought by contemporary leaders, historians, and public intellectuals.
This is unlikely to happen, primarily because what MacDougal characterizes as the „wrong audience“ is one that was created by Harper and only inherited by Pierre.
There is no other „audience“ for the CPC. They are a fringe party that got lucky, and are now stalled because the circumstances of their birth are unrepeatable. The CPC path to government has to include a significant purge of Harper, Pierre, their enablers, their ideology and everything else they have brought to the party.
If not, a less feral „Conservative Party“ will replace them.
