The United States carried out another strike on an alleged drug-smuggling vessel Tuesday night, this time in the Pacific off the coast of South America, two U.S. officials told CBS News.

It was the eighth known U.S. attack on a suspected drug boat since Sept. 2. The previous seven strikes targeted boats in the Caribbean.

Officials told CBS News that two to three people aboard the vessel were killed.

American blockade strikes another unknown vessel with unknown persons aboard. America has become the official baddies. No rule of law for you!

    3. AlasPoorZathras on

Somebody, please stop us. Don’t embolden this administration. If the rest of the world presents a united front, you win.

If you let us foment chaos piecemeal, the instability will make a single nation easy pickings. Repeat until whomever is left can’t organize a strong enough counter.

Do. Not. Trust us! No treaty or agreement will be followed. The GOP lies as a lifestyle choice. The truth is now woke.

    4. *Alleged…* doesn’t seem to inspire confidence that they know for certain. They kill anyway. One day, the *alleged* boat will be US citizens. mmw.

    5. nuts4coconuts on

Can someone tell me how the US gets the intel on these supposed smuggler boats?

    6. C’mon, guys. How else are we going to justify enacting the Aliens Enemies Act without waging war against Venezuela, remove their president and secure their resources? Duh.

    7. RoseCityHooligan on

This is absolute insanity. We have a madman running this country and an entire GOP-controlled congress of spineless pathetic worms who let him do anything he wants.

    8. Part of me wonders if they’re not just trying to bait another country into a war with us

    9. NotAnotherBlingBlop on

Were literally just murdering people with impunity. Fucking sane.

    10. ReleaseFromDeception on

Anybody else just a teeny tiny bit unsettled that these extrajudicial strikes are basically completely normalized in the political sphere for the GOP?

edit: It’s coming up frequently that the US has conducted similar sorts of strikes in the middle east and africa for decades. I want to acknowledge that wrinkle here – but I also want to say that I think those strikes had terrible human costs, which is all the more reason to cease doing this type of thing. It’s inhuman. It’s unjust. It’s not going to make the world a safer place.

This is the same type of shit that landed Duterte of the Philippines in the Hague.

    12. Pretend_Pea4636 on

These are „Extra-Judicial Killings“. It’s a criminal act. Mr Hegseth and his boss should be arrested for the acts. They openly claim that this is a drug boat. Great. You can’t just kill people for drug smuggling. The statute of limitations are essentially endless here. When we have a Congress that is willing to be the House of the People, we should enforce laws. The arrest and trial of Mr. Hegseth should be top of mind.

    13. Hey America, these are illegal murders happening in your name without evidence or without any authorization of Congress, as the Constitution demands.

    14. daGroundhog on

Probably a small craft off the coast of Antarctica crewed by penguin narco-terrorists. Those drugs were definitely a threat to Janie and Jimmy in East Turkey Trot, IA. The address label said that was where they were headed.

    15. impliedhearer on

Wouldn’t it be a better idea to detain them and figure out what they have and where they got it from?

    16. Wild_Read9062 on

      This is just f*cking insane.

What if China starts doing this? What if they just start taking out any boat between themselves and Japan? Or any boat near the Philippines? Oops?

What if Russia starts doing this? Oops?

Are we going to go to war with China and Russia if they start doing this? What if they do it to our allies? What if they do it to Jewish boats? Does that negate our agreements and Trumps promised free casino in Gaza?

One of the largest problems with this administration, and boomers (e.g. Trump) is that they cannot imagine tomorrow. That’s why they have no problem with destroying the climate or nature. ‚Everything will be fine! It’s just like the 1950’s! Make everything great, like when I was a kid in the 1950’s! We could do anything now. And we don’t, not because we know better, but because the left is just tying our hands!‘

These people are writing checks against our children and their children. They don’t give a f*ck about the consequences to people who follow them.

    17. blackmobius on

“”Peacetime president”” Trump just cant stop extrajudicial killings of any people on nearby boats can they?

    18. Alternative headline: US kills 3 people on a boat with zero proof they were a danger to anyone.

Stop normalizing this. This is NOT okay.

    19. There’s no world where this isn’t a war crime. Even if these people are guilty of being drug runners how is that a capital offense with no trial, evidence, anything? America is being run by literal psychopaths.

    20. GoxBoxSocks on

Shoot first and then say they were a drug dealer? Wow this really is a police state.

    21. What’s to stop another country from doing the same to our vessels and citizens?

This is why there are laws in place. Without laws, we are not leading the world.

    22. NinjaChemist on

What’s going to happen when another country bombs a U.S. fishing boat and claims they were narcoterrorists?

    23. quickwaxsix on

      > The Trump administration has told Congress that the United States is engaged in a “non-international armed conflict” with drug cartels.

Here’s what to watch. The admin is setting a precedent that they can blow up whoever they want wherever they want without saying why.

Forget about foreign wars, resources, drugs, or regime change – those add context/rationale to these attacks. They want to reduce context/rationale – the goal is the muddy the waters and bring this to US soil.

    24. I would like to know the people pulling these triggers. Somebody is following orders and I would like to put that person under a Microscope.

    25. ThisTooInModeration on

      > Defense Secretary Hegseth … wrote, „The vessel … was transporting substantial amounts of narcotics.“

Cool. Soon they can show us how much and what it was.

    26. Wabi-Sabi_Umami on

This administration sure seems to be itching for a war. The new “Department of War” moniker makes much more sense as of late. Disgraceful, dishonest, and disgusting drug and alcohol addled “leaders” are at the helm now.

    27. Remember when trump „joked“ he could shoot a man in times square and get away with it? Well he is murdering people right out in front of the whole world to see, and noone is doing anything about it.

    28. AthasDuneWalker on

Until I see verified from a third party, concrete evidence, I’m just going to automatically assume that every single boat that they hit is a fishing boat.

    29. It’s so weird that they know these boats are heading for US shores but cannot for the life of them capture them as they arrive and just HAVE to deploy super expensive munitions to MURDER them off shore.

    30. Spamgrenade on

The fact that these boats keep coming suggests that blowing them up is no deterrent.

    31. Purple_Plus on

While they work with Argentina which has been implicated in drug smuggling lol.

One of Milei’s top team (who he backed throughout) was caught accepting huge bribes from cartels lol

    32. CaptainAwesome06 on

I have a friend who was in the Coast Guard. He said they’d go up in a helicopter, find these drug boats, and shoot the engine. Then they’d board the boats and confiscate everything. He said they were never armed and it was only one or two guys on board.

If these guys are really blowing up drug boats, why not do it like the Coast Guard did so they could at least hold up a brick of cocaine and say, „we did this!“? There being no evidence afterward makes it that much more suspicious.

    33. Soggy_Cracker on

So we blew up a boat in international waters near the panama region nearly 2000 miles away from the U.S. border.

They have literally committed a war crime and have openly taken credit for it.

I hope hegseth, the president and anyone else in that chain of command all the way down to the trigger man go to prison for murder.
