    1. I’d like to say it should be obvious that we should not create conscious life and then experiment on it without consent.

But then again. I do know humans. . . .

So really the question is: how do we make conscious mini brains *cute* AF so that people *realize* they really shouldn’t be torturing them.

    2. The first mistake was calling them ‚Mini-brains‘ as if they’re more consciousness than plants( not even close)

    3. This headline is cracking me up. “We asked people are really weird hypothetical and most of them said, ‘uh… I don’t know.’”

As far the actually morality of it, I think that will be debated forever and has a lot to do with how “noble” any perceived outcome of the experiments would be.

We live in a world where billions of sentient creatures are born in the worst conditions imaginable, live torturous and brief lives, until they are unceremoniously killed for us to gorge upon. Now, is a mini-brain actually conscience? If we can agree on that, perhaps it’s torture….but even if it is, you just know, it won’t stop the technological arms race.

    5. And yet, they probably have no issues with the horrific torture endured by animals for research that serves absolutely no purpose.

    6. Thank goodness the public doesn’t decide sh1t, or we would still be in the stone age!

The conversation is missing the fact that these are human brain cells that are self organizing. Yes, the treatment of these „brains“ resembles the treatment of animals under factory farming and lab experimentation. However, they are human brains and without massive lobbying support this will be shut down. It’s only a matter of time before some (left or right wing) advocacy group dedicates their lives and inheritance to this.
