The Maori might have been harder to take over by colonizers, but it also would have been discovered a lot earlier.

I wonder how much money it would cost to pull a Netherlands and remove the water and damn it up

It would have had been colonized by the some Hawaiian explorers early on, industrialized independently, had a communist revolution, invented nukes first, and ruled the world with an iron fist.

    4. With the extra 2km of height the Southern Alps could be just about fighting to crack the top 10 tallest mountain ranges

    5. I don’t think I realized the (underwater) continent was so close to Australia.

    6. With things to do other than play rugby, the All Blacks would have been worse

If this was before humans made it to the continent then I bet their would either be Australia 2.0 or just a flat plain with giant birds. Humans settle of the islands and establish kingdoms on foreign soil. British come in and now take two continents for themselves if the natives if the islanders haven’t progressed into warfare. Independence for them comes and the land is split between 3 nations. Native Maori/Polynesian , Native Melanesian, and white settlers in the south.

If it was just pulled out recently then New Zealand is basically stuck in a giant landmass for months before building new ports around the coast. New Boarders are drawn based on the previous EEZs and now New Zealand is the second biggest nation in Oceania. New minerals can be mined and so everyone on the new landmass is now making money from the mines around the landmass.

Not under water? How did you determine what the mythical sea level is? This map is ridiculous.

This could have been. But the elves were not united and broke faith with the Valar, leading to Morgoth dominating the land here that was plunged into the sea, leaving the shore of Middle Earth as we now know it. Similarly the star shaped island plunged into the sea when Numenor broke faith. But New Zealand is fine now thanks to a couple hobbits and their friends.
