Für alle, die es nicht verstehen: Es geht um die Zeit zwischen 1937 und 1949, als das irische Gesetz nicht genau festlegte, wer das Staatsoberhaupt war.
Also Schrodinger lived in Ireland during the Nazi takeover of Austria… turns out Schrodinger was in good company with the catholic church at the time, very very creepy guy. Dev inivited him over to be part of the Dublin Institue for Advanced Studies which was set up as part of Dev’s vision of Ireland being a hub for sceince and innovation.

Went to the trouble to put the umlaut above the ‚o‘ but couldn’t be bothered to google what his first name was.

Does the law of Ireland specify exactly who the head of state is now? The constitution still has the same provisions as it did between 1937 and 1949 and the Republic of Ireland Act doesn’t explicitly mention head of state.

Very Irish, not wanting a straight answer. I recently asked 3 of my friends when did Ireland achieve independence, one said 1922, one 1937 and one said, not yet. I was gonna say 1948/9 with the External Affairs Act or whatever it’s called (I’ve already forgotten) but ended up befuddled and entertained by the three contradictory but equally valid answers.

As opposed to Schrodinger the Nazi catboy.
But…. that’s another matter

Interestingly, Dev wasn’t actually in power in 1948. He even said that if he had been, he wouldn’t have chosen to leave the commonwealth.

Never thought I’d see an External Association meme.
