Yeah, they have the majority, so it’s their responsibility to write up a bill that gets enough votes. Republicans are failing at their job. But they are hell bent on destroying the economy and killing USA citizens and that’s not getting them enough votes.

    2. I mean, it’s pretty obvious. Republicans control congress, the judiciary, and the executive. They could end the shutdown right now, if they wanted to, and they wouldn’t even truly need a single democrat to help them. They just have to end the filibuster, something they said they would do already.

They don’t actually want to end the shutdown at all, which is why Mike has sent his buddies home on an extended vacation. With the government closed, Trump is using the opportunity to do all the worst shit he had planned. He’s firing thousands of people, and tearing down a chunk of the White House itself for his vanity project.

This isn’t going to end until the people take the republicans to account. I honestly would not be surprised if the government remains closed until next year at least.

Polling shows Republicans control the presidency, both houses of Congress, and the MAGA SCROTUS.

      More polling to follow.

Let’s see how long that lasts. Us Americans are not exactly the wisest of people.

    5. Democrats are offering Americans improved (well, not-worsened) healthcare if they prevail.

Republicans are offering Americans… what, exactly? What’s their counteroffer for how they’ll benefit the American people? „If you end the shutdown, you’ll get… the end of the shutdown!“ Wow so generous.

Even their *nominal* position is „you should give up your healthcare to stop migrants from getting healthcare,“ which, besides being untrue anyway, is still not exactly a juicy offer.

    6. Well yea, it’s Trump’s shutdown. They control House, Senate, White House and SCOTUS…this is 100% Trump’s shutdown.

    7. Smart-Response9881 on

      *Half of Americans.

A third probably blame democrats, and the remainder don’t know/care.

At this point, I don’t think anything will get through to the apathetic and trumps cult.

    8. Even_Establishment95 on

I think the more important point here is that most people do not even understand what a shutdown means and what the consequences are. But they will tell you who is to blame.

    9. faith_apnea on

      Hold accountable not blame.

Blame is a waste of time.

MAGA claimed to have a mandate and this is what they’ve chosen to do with it.

    10. LurkinMakesMeFeelGud on

I’m a bit worried about the obsession with who gets blamed. I’d rather ask if you want rural hospitals to exist and if ACA premiums should double for 20 million people. This is a fight over who deserves to live, not who’s in charge.

    11. Spacebotzero on

The Republican party no longer wants to govern, lead, or manage. They just want to grift and make billions off the misery of Americans. That’s all it seems from them now.

    12. gnarlytabby on

Senate Republicans could end the shutdown at any time by ending the filibuster and passing their CR with a simple majority vote. They do not do so because, like Trump, they think the shutdown is good because it hurts the poor and gives more powers to Trump. Trump literally says this repeatedly.

    13. Ok-Goat-9981 on

This is the Trump Shut Down and it’s going to be the longest shut down, bigly.

    14. Late-Arrival-8669 on

At least majority of Americans know it.

Kicking 22 million off their Healthcare or increasing premiums when 4 trillion in tax cuts for the rich, really is a slap in the face..

    15. They have no traction to spin anything when they control all of the government. They have to own all the shitty things they want to do. There is no one left to scapegoat that is plausible.

    16. Okay, so 50% to 43% people blame Republicans.

But most Republicans want the government shut down to begin with. So in terms of political outcomes, it’s probably still going to hurt Democrats.

    17. To-Far-Away-Times on

      As they should.

Dems are under no obligation to agree to Republican terms or rubber stamp bad policy.

Republicans have an obligation to write a bill that can pass.

    18. Extreme-Plantain-174 on

I blame Republicans also as they control all three branches of the government!

    19. Open-Year2903 on

They can re open today with zero D votes. Just make a 1 time rule to extend CR.

It’s just an EPSTEIN file distraction

    20. chiphazard92 on

I see people saying that this is the republican’s fault. So republicans pass a clean CR that continue funding government at the current level. Democrats refuse to support it because they want something changed that doesn’t have anything to do with funding the government. Then that equals republican’s fault? I do want to understand but I can’t get there in my head with regards to the funding of the government.

    21. CordiallySuckMyBalls on

Yea they run the fucking country. It’s not even an opinion it’s a fact.

    22. babadook53551 on

This is why modern news is trash „Americans blame republics for shutdown“. The first sentence of the article says „half of Americans blame republicans for shutdown“. Imagine going to college for journalism only to write vacuous, useless, internet garbage for click bait.

    23. ubiforumssuck on

uh huh, sure they do msn. I mean the title is kinda truthful, americans do blame the right but its the same americans who think shoplifting is ok and unlimited immigration was a good idea.

    24. People really come on Reddit to click links to 10 minute videos so you can have information you could read in 20 seconds?

    25. el_coo_cooi on

Republicans are the honey badgers of politics, in terms of not giving a shit.

    26. I wish it didn’t have to be news that most people think „they made me do it“ is bullshit.

    27. deleted_opinions on

Wait until they have to explain that SNAP benefits will go away in November as our supreme leader builds a tacky ballroom and sends $40 billion to Argentina.

    28. Yea, but Republican leaders have their cake and ballroom, so they really don’t care about the people anymore.

    29. Meet_the_Meat on

If those Republicans cared about Ameicans, I’m sure they’d be very upset

    30. Former-Material9099 on

I take every bit of potential logic coming from this populace with a grain of salt

    31. cats_are_the_devil on

Pretty easy to blame someone that’s unwilling to even show up and do their job… The house has been in session for 15 days since July 31st.

    32. hackingdreams on

What? You mean the party that controls all three branches of the government is responsible for the government being shut down? How in the hell is that possible?

Clearly it’s the trans-antifa agenda’s fault, right? Democrats? Space lasers?

    33. The House is not in Session and it’s controlled by the Republicans , so Yes

    34. TriflingHotDogVendor on

The Republicans can stop this any time. They just have to change the procedural rules. They’ve done it before. Multiple times. But they won’t because this shutdown is the excuse they need to not swear in the deciding vote on the Epstein files release.
