      Honestly, not to be a doom monger. You will see this figure rise and rise and rise as companies attempt to maximise profit and minimise staff count.

      Governments need to prepare for the fallout that is coming. But that’s a laugh.

      To be expected when wages are kept low due to mass unskilled immigration and other jobs which would be ideal for students such as telecoms are outsourced to other countries.

      NEETS – I do recommed doing part time courses if you can while looking for a job as well as walkling and hitting the gym.

      Given my experiences with unemployment… I’m REALLY not surprised.

      The UC person did more harm than good for my job search and made me do a bunch of pointless things to sign up to 10 different programs and training courses while also expecting me to do 50 hours of job search a week. It ended up in me just spamming a bunch of low-effort applications for jobs I don’t care about just to get numbers up and then only doing one or two real applications a day.

      And from there, I only got a response from half the job applications I did and half of the ones that did reply just said „We filled the position, bye“ and then the government website that half the jobs link to is terrible and will time you out mid-application. There is no way at all to do an effective job search outside of just knowing someone who can get you the job.

      I know there’s a lot of factors in play here, but these are the COVID kids aren’t they? The ones who lost out on education because of the lockdowns etc.

      I believe people need a ‘first trade’ course; hear me out. There are universal tools that you can easily learn that’ll save you massive amounts in the future. Skills like ‘measure twice, cut once’, simple I know but it could save you so much time. I believe this can help young people for the future.

      To be fair, the world is spiralling into such a post-capitalism populist dystopia it’s probably best if young people just focus on enjoying themselves for as long as they can before the work camps and Orwellian police state measures are fully implemented…

      Ai is going to make the problem worse. It’s a world wide problem and I don’t think politics can solve it.

      Give everyone the same wage from 18 onwards. It’s ridiculous that under 24s get paid less for doing the same work as someone older than them. Maybe in some industries people gain experience, but someone who’s 18 packing shelves should be paid the same as a 25 year old stacking shelves.

      Imagine turning 18 and an hourly wage only gets you one beer (in stead of two).

      There are jobs and training out there, just not necessarily the jobs you want. Why not try bricklaying, HGV driving, scaffolding….

      Theres so much obfuscating data in play in the UK at the moment you can basically insert your political views onto the situation and people do.

      What you can say is that official self-declared disability has increased amongst young people primarily due to a difference in how the census question regarding disability was asked in 2021. We changed the definition: interested parties can use that to claim an increase in ill health and they might be right or they might be wrong, but it doesn’t seem to be enormously significant, it’s likely that us millennials and boomers had equally poor mental health but nobody asked us about it/ we didn’t have the words to explain it.

      That certainly feeds into sickness and disability claims figures but probably aren’t driving it. What seems most likely is that the switch to UC has created a perverse incentive to put in the effort required for such claims because it’s so difficult to stay on unemployment benefits.

      And there is a youth unemployment crisis being hidden by that benefits incentive.

      Are the kids more ill? Maybe a bit but certainly not as significantly as it appears. They’re out of work.

      Considering the number of entry level jobs that somehow require five year’s experience to qualify for, and many companies using AI to screen their applications – those that are even for real jobs – is it any wonder?

      People who are not in education, employment or training should not be entitled to benefits.

      Here is a simple solution. Make anyone who hires remotely abroad pay the same wage as they would pay someone of equivalent skill in the UK. Then it suddenly stops being desirable to hire those abroad for cheap labour. Now there are more jobs for those graduating.

      Worst thing they did was raise ni
      My wife got made redundant and then the government said I get paid too much …for universal credit
      Even though I have 3 kids to support
      Anyways she’s now found a job again but the amount of interviews she had to go to and apply for was crazy
      But it makes me wonder …if she was going for a low skills jobs would she have gotten a job easily and faster
