This is good. What is the source? I find a bunch of similar maps going back a bunch of years, here’s [one from 2019](https://imgur.com/gallery/pretty-colors-1txLhMO). Looks like someone has iteratively improved it over time.

The whole Jefferson thing is so stupid, unless it’s a reference to Oregon’s attempt to be a whites-only state.

Several of these are very good like California. But the Chicago/“great lakes“ area is very very wrong.

I show this map all the time to explain that Missouri is only partly southern

This map gets the areas I know very well. Bloomington Indiana is the only dot that I am not sure fits, there are some foothills down there which are distinct from the heartland farms.
The person who made this map knows the West, or talked to people who know the West. Kudos.

These attempts at mapping culture are doomed to fail. Regions such as the DC metro, Raleigh Durham, and Atlanta are much closer to eacher other than they are to the rural regions in between them.

This is the most accurate one of these cultural maps I’ve seen yet. Kentucky is accurate to a T.
I still think Southern Maryland, the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and maybe Sussex County Delaware should be included in the South(just my personal preference, I know others will disagree), but overall this is the map I reference for US cultural areas.

I have a little quibble with the terminology: region 12 is (part of) the *coastal* Pacific Northwest, but the PNW also includes 11, 13, the northern part of 22, and potentially the northern edges of 14 and 22 and at least part of Alaska (as well as part of Canada).

How about a resolution that is actually legible? Why do people post this shit?

I agree with most of these terms across the country. However the labels in central Indiana seem a bit arbitrary. I don’t understand the distinction between 33 and 36 and why the line cuts through Indianapolis like this. Agricutlture, Industry, demographics and topography are very similar along the Interstate 70 corridor through Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.

You seem to have included a bit of Oklahoma in the midwest, please remove it immediately.

I just liked this because I’m from North Dakota, and it depicts the situation around here accurately.

Pittsburgh PA is right on the border between two regions. How can that be? Wouldn’t it be more one or the other?

How is a part of Oklahoma in the Midwest but not most of Nebraska, the first state (along with Kansas) to be recognized as the mid west.

Problem with this map is the cultural divides aren’t regional. They’re rural/urban. You’ll find more in common from a random agricultural county in one area to another than you will pairing that same county with the metro area 50 miles away.

I’m sorry but 55 is complete nonsense. South Jersey shore and inland Maryland/Virginia are not remotely similar.

This map proves what all of us in North Jersey already know but people from the city can’t accept: we’re basically New Yorkers.

Like „the Bay Area“ itself is 10 different microcultures, if not 50.
