To put this in a little bit of context: fewer than 2% of boys born in England and Wales in 2024 were named Mumammed/Mohammed

This isn’t really a useful statistic. What would be more meaningful is to group all given names by their cultural or linguistic origin and compare those totals instead. It might just be that Muslim parents overwhelmingly prefer a single name, while parents from other backgrounds spread their choices across many different ones.

Do muslims think naming their sons after their prophet brings a good luck or what?

In muslim majority Indonesia, popular male name were Sutrisno and Budi.

It’s misleading considering most Muslims in UK are from South Asia where it’s very common to give a Muslim first name as Mohammed/Muhammed to boys and using their 2nd/middle name in their day-to-day life.

(As a teacher) children 8 years ago were called Ashleigh and Leighton and I literally taught a boy called Jaxxx. Now they’re called Elspeth and Arthur and Doreen (and Mohammed, obviously)

a lot of muslims name their first son mohamad, but it is rarely ever just mohamad, its mohamad „other name“ surname, and invariably they get called by their other name, which becomes kind of their first name.

walk around london or birminham, how often do u hear someone calling or shouting someone as „mohamad“. i knew at least four or five lads whos first name was techincally mohamad but in daily use people used their other name.

hope that makes sense to people.

Literally hundreds of thousands of names available and people choose Mohammad. Just seems lazy.

    11. Why include “other names” after the top 3 names lol. The reader hopefully realizes those are not the only 3 boys names of 2025.

I’ve always thought, to name your child after a prophet, doesn’t that make your kid technically an idol? Calling him then Mohammed is idol worshiping. That religion has so many flaws and contradictions.

Are the yellow districts perhaps religious majorities? And blue social housing?

      This is lacking context.

If every white British person had the same name then „Other Names“ (making up the largest area in purple) would be the number one name.

The data from Scotland is not shown, but I have it on good authority that “Mohammed” gives way to “MacLovin” the further north you go.

Oh good, a repeat of the faux outrage when the list was announced months ago.

It’s funny how people criticise Islam for naming kids after Muhammad when the second-most common name is literally Noah, who was a Christian prophet

No bias there, of course /s

Strange it looks like that is almost the same areas where they had issues with grooming gangs. Could there be a connection?
