Don’t agree with everything in this opinion piece (goes off the rails a bit, nitpicking McPherson’s pablum towards the end), but he’s circled in on an important point with the more successful left politicians in North America and how little they resemble any of the NDP candidates so far. It’s still early going, plenty of time to develop some exciting signature policies that will infuriate the Globe & Mail editorial page, but so far its mostly crickets.
This is student journalism and it shows. The author says we need a Canadian Mamdani….. we had that and his name was Jagmeet Singh and he utterly destroyed your party.
So „progressives“ would rather lose forever than compromise on anything. Laughable. Reminds me of Democrats and Joe Manchin. When they couldn’t tolerate someone who voted with them 50% of the time in a R+40 state and are now stuck with someone who votes with them 0% of the time.
Why are Canadian progressives obsessed with foreigners?

Contrast this with the Conservatives. People keep comparing Poilievre to Ford or Houston.
Yet Eby and Kinew might as well not exist for progressives.
Talk about being out of touch. Their head space isn’t even in Canada.
