Looks like the closer you get to Idaho the more the residents realized they didn’t want to be in Idaho.

I’ve no strong opinions on the topic beyond thinking that it would be funny if US states had exclaves.

Imagine wanting to live in Idaho!

Good. They don’t provide anything to the economy anyway.

The red counties represent a tiny percentage of Oregon’s population.

Probably looks the same as the subsidy $ map.

I’m sure that most of the folks of western Oregon would be happy not to continue to subsidize those in eastern Oregon.

Why don’t they move there then?

Not surprised that people want to escape the state that said they were going to impose a forever mask mandate before backing down lmao.

Why would anyone want to be part of the I DA HOE state?💀

The blue ones aren’t because they love Portland, it’s because they’re holding our for their own (slightly more plausible) secessionist movement.

the Pacific Northwest makes a compelling case for ecoregionalism and drawing a political divide along ridge lines and watersheds, separating the wet, liberal coastal area from the rain-shadow, rural, conservative hinterlands.

Nobody from Idaho wants these welfare counties

Eastern Oregon can be the 52nd state and southwestern Nebraska can be the 51st. Who’s with me!!

The ones that want to leave Oregon also have the opportunity to sell and move to Idaho all by themselves without all the fuss.

Western Oregon can’t allow it. That’s too much democracy.

All of them are pawns for billionaire propagandists who are doing everything in their power to give republicans more representation in congress. End goal is more seats in the house and more tax cuts for the rich.

To give perspective, there are more homeless people in Portland than there are residents of Harney County (the deep red one with 7,200 people in it).
Harney County is about the size of West Virginia

The dark red county is Lake County. It is very sparsely populated, remote and historically had closer ties to California and Nevada than other parts of Oregon/NW.

Ironically those areas are subsidized heavily by Portland.

Being a strong independent in WA, I actually like the political diversity in the state. I wish the parties would come together and look for the positives from each more than the fighting, but I really wouldn’t want to see extreme lines one side or the other that a west vs east divide would create.

Ngl, politics aside, Idaho would look cool as the only triangular shaped state.

Fun activity: looking up the populations of those counties, especially SE OR. Then look up voter turnout. “80%” means a few hundred people.

This looks basically like Klamath Falls wants to join Idaho. I think the issue is that Idaho doesn’t want Klamath Falls 😃
