Es wurde lange von den französischen Behörden vertuscht.

Honestly, France getting crushed by Germany in the war might have been the best thing to happen to their public image ever. Sure they became the butt of some jokes but over all people see them as the poor victims of war (which was true for WW2, don’t get me wrong) instead of the genuinely evil empire they continued to be for another two decades.
Dozens to hundreds were killed? How is there such a wide margin of the unkown for an event happening in Paris in 1961?
That’s why the Algerian delegation was throwing flowers in the Seine at the Olympics.
The past was really brutal related with protests. This is very similar to the Bloody Sunday.
The guy behind it was a Nazi collaborator, by the way. Despite this, he served as a prefect of police and later as a mayor in France.
