I’m kinda liking this no nonsense Carney. This presser he straight out fact checked this one question. Then still expanded on to answer.
“It’s not that simple, and nor is the relationship in the auto sector that simple as just ‘open a door here with China,’ with no impact on the relationship with the United States and the impact on activity here in Canada.”
That sounds like a no.
I’m sure there is an issue of national security considering EVs rely heavily on software (especially those who want autopilot) that can monitor and gather data in the country for the CCP. There needs to be regulations in place to ensure it’s safe.
The second thing is a deal needs to be reached about the type of EV that can be brought here at the current moment I believe we have 0 battery swapping stations so those are useless here. We could consider offering to lower tariffs over a period of time say five years for all eligible EVs from China.
