    1. Bailout is probably heading their way though, but, if it requires congress, every single dem should vote against it.

NO! NO! We saw all the videos of the farmers during the election, saying things might get bad for a while and that they were resilient!

I live in a very rural area, in a deep red state and I know some of these farmers. They’re pissed but don’t really know what to do *(they’ll probably end up selling them for way, way less and they hope they’ll be subsidized)*. I wasn’t sure what I could do but someone online during the Kimmel fiasco suggested we could do to the government what we did to Disney and I think they were right.

Stop spending money on these corporations supporting conservatives Fascist wet dreams. Quit shopping at Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, Kroger and instead shop at places that are more friendly to the working class; Aldi and Costco come to mind, we also have a few really good hispanic grocery stores and locally ran stores. They’re a little more expensive but I’ll take it.

I’m also planning to spend less in general. No more Amazon shit, I don’t need that thing sitting in my Amazon cart. I’ll be cancelling all subscriptions. No more fast food, they all donate a ton of money to conservatives *(and I’m really going to miss those jalapeno cheddar bits from BK)*.

This shouldn’t be a left vs right problem. Our country is in disaster. The entire working class is having their rights stripped from them. There’s a new mass shooting every week. We’ve got US troops in major United States cities turning guns on citizens. We’ve got masked men in the streets, kidnapping people without due process, being deported to third world countries. The prices of all goods keep skyrocketing. We’ve got a President going after his political enemies. Climate change is **going to** effect all of us drastically. The kicker to all of this? Half of the country is accelerating this and cheering while they do it. The only thing these rich assholes understand is money, so stop giving it to them.

    4. Then came a resurgence of their racist, xnephobic, militaristic version of right Christianity in a man that allowed the only worst of human thought and depravity to bubble up to surface again….and they jumped right up at the chance to show everyone who they really are. Sorry, but not sorry.

Remember when monopolies were illegal? Now we have corporate farming, zillow owned housing markets, all of MSM controlled by 3 conglomerates, and a private prison system. I guess we gave up on monopolies being a bad idea cause.. capitalism, hmm?

“Hmm, we could vote Democrat but as bad as this is, staying true to our racist asshole core principles is more important.”

Farmers wanted cheap farm workers. Trump’s already lowered the minimum rate for visa workers. ICE has made workers afraid to leave the farm properties.

Unfortunately for the farmers trump also threatened their largest customers, who haven’t taken this well. He’s also tanking the economy, which dictators aren’t really allowed to do in the early stages of dictatorship.

I know most of it goes overseas, but maybe the right shouldn’t have invented the term ’soy boy‘ as an insult. Who wants to eat anything soy if it makes you look like a cucked beta lib?

    9. Totally bullshit ! America didn’t bet on soybeans, greedy corporate farmers bet they could make billions more in profits by growing soybeans and shipping them to china. Then came biofuel that could be made out of soybeans but once again their lil red caps were to tight and continued to ship 100% of the crops to china then trump and his tariffs and killings renewable energy, well if they sold the soybeans to biofuel companies in America the biofuel companies would be able to compete with big oil now and wouldn’t need government subsidies now China China China and soybeans these giant corporate farms deserve what they get they should grow crops that will be used in America instead of using Americas natural resources to benefit foreign countries. FYI Saudi Arabia has millions of acres of farmland in America that grow alpha and export 100% of it to Saudi Arabia and alpha uses the most water of any crop that is why it’s against the law in SA to grow

It’s almost as if their votes are not about policy. I wonder what they think they’re voting for…. /S

    11. The President of the United States of America is a pedophile. He’s on the list.

    12. I wonder how the Amish will do? They farm mostly for themselves and their communities. Their prices, like everyone, are up with the cost of fertilizer and other necessities. I suspect in a few years they will still be thriving as the rest of us keep shrinking. What may harm them is disease and pollution.

    13. If you’ve seen the recent farmer suicide statistics you would know it’s going very very well lol

    14. I don’t get it, about American soybean farmers. The soybeans in my local grocery stores all come from Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Mexico, and China. Our Whole Foods carries *one* sourced from USA.

Observation driving through western Idaho last weekend.

      1. Vast acres of crops rotting in the fields.

      2. Didn’t see one Trump sign/flag on a fence etc
(Past trips they were very common in past)

That’s just soybeans. 40% of field corn is used to produce ethanol.

Think about it. We are moving into the age of electrification. As demand for fossil fuels declines so does the ethanol market.

There’s roughly 100 million acres of soybeans and 100 million acres of corn production in the US.

40% of the corn acres and 50% of the bean acres! The cascading effects are enormous. Nobody is talking about this.

There’s a day of reckoning coming, and it’s not going away, no matter how hard the Koch brothers kick and scream to hang on to the old days. The world is moving forward with cleaner and cheaper renewable energy.

The entire farm economy is built on a house of cards. This is an inflection point. We need smart dedicated leadership to navigate the challenges ahead.

What will soybean farmers do in 2026?

Are they going to plant soybeans again? What if China doesn’t buy again?

Can the farmers pivot? Will the land allow them to? Will their finances allow them to?

    18. Fantasmic03 on

This is the natural result of Republican party governance. CEOs and finance types are laughing all the way to the bank though.

    19. CarltonCatalina on

Tariff’s started in January. Farmers planted their soybeans in April. Why is that exactly?

    20. Oceanbreeze871 on

Farmers went all-in on export crops Americans don’t use and also voted for nationalism and isolationism.

If they could add 1+1 they could solve their own problems

    21. Punkinpry427 on

If they didn’t learn from his first term, then they got what they what they voted for and they deserve every bit of it.

    22. Honestly, good soy beans are fucking terrible for us in general. We should move onto something better.

    23. Not America. Farmcos. They made bad business decisions. They’re not growing crops for American markets. We should not bail them out. Ag subsidies should only go to stabilize commodities intended for American markets.

    24. Maybe the party of tax breaks for the Billionaires is not the party for them?

On the Dems side – how shameful that we lost the rural voter. All of today’s subsidies and pricing supports came with the huge support of Democratic leaders. Think New Deal, Dust Bowl farmer supports, surplus crops given to low income households, conservation easements, grants to upgrade practices to mitigate environmental impact.

Plus the technology and research, the federal government provides weather and forecasting data for free, gps technology, land grant universities to help with farming, national cooperative gardening associations.

The American Government for generation after generation has been seen as a supporter of farmers. That is a good thing.

The Democrats know that government does good things for Americans.

    25. This misses the main reason farmers plant soybeans, which is corn.

Soybeans are the natural crop rotator for corn since it outs nitrogen back that corn takes out. It’s also a „cover crop“ that’s planted to prevent erosion.

There’s not a lot of other crops that can do that. So as long as we’re subsidizing farmers to grow massive fields of corn for animal feed, hyper processed foods, and ethonal, farmers are stuck with soybeans too.
