Fair enough, I work in mental health as a therapist and I’m the only person in my 14 clinician team office who even understands AI or how to use it.
I do have clients in more business related sectors who are essentially using it to replace jobs underneath them that aren’t performing. It’s quite wild to watch since most the people I speak to fall into this category of not saying it to anyone at their employment, while actively talking to me about it.
I have been pushing at our practice to start using it to expedite all our work flows since insurance is the devil in America. Truly worried for the future of healthcare if we don’t regulate insurance companies, lower cost, and expand care. All of which, insurance is actively fighting against.
And here I am only using AI at work to write emails in the style of an 1800s gentleman.
It’s a good thing I hardly use AI at work, it’s usually faster for me to type/create/research/code than argue with the dumb robot because it made up something that doesn’t exist or couldn’t possibly work.
Context I work with complex systems with a lot of industry knowledge required, so it’s probably not the dumb robots fault
It’s definitely a difficult position to be in.
The boss has hired 10 people with shovels to dig holes. You show up to work with a secret backhoe and dig your hole in a 10th of the time without breaking a sweat. If the employer found out you had used a backhoe, they might be inclined to either expect a lot more holes to be done in the same amount of time for the same amount of pay, or they might even reduce your pay because they realize you’re not working nearly as hard as the manual shovelers on the team. And of course if your employer finds out you’ve been using a backhoe, they may simply buy their own backhoe and fire all 10 of you.
