With how destroyed the place is, its surprising they were able to return the bodies they already had. Considering some their own families may still be stuck under rubble.
Obviously, if one side isn’t going to keep their side of the deal, why would the other? Hamas plays these twisted games all the time. They did the same thing with the Bibas child body. Of course they’re going to try to keep some capital for later. I’d be surprised if they don’t have a few secret living hostages as well to pull out when the time is right.
They’re also clearly more preoccupied with killing the families of rival factions than they are finding the bodies that are part of the current deal
If the remaining hostages are not reachable without „significant efforts“ as the article states, what do you do?
I ask this in good faith – I’d like to hear what the anti-Israel crowd thinks should happen if Hamas just continues to refuse to surrender/disarm/follow up with the peace deal objectives.
Do we send a force in to fight them? If so, who? If not, why not?
Do we just sit around and wait and hope the Qataris convince them to give up?
A good number of bodies are probably under tons of rubble. With Israel refusing to let in equipment to help remove the destruction they’ve created, it’s not surprising Hamas can’t access every body. It’s almost as if the Israeli leadership was chomping at the bits to find any excuse to continue their horror.
The Hannibal directive needs to studied by all: many of the hostages are dead because of bizarre orders the idf follow. Where is the accountability and anger towards them? It’s one of the most inhumane policies I’ve ever read about.
