It’s a small survey and the IT are bad at the prediction game.
The one thing I predict is a low turn out.
There’s a great deal of apathy out there. No one’s particularly impressed about either candidate, they’re both just meh. Are they really the best we can find for one of the most senior positions in our country?
FG have ran this campaign poorly. Trying to use smear and negativity as the tool to tarnish CC. CC by the very fact that she will not go that route comes off the far more Presidential of the two candidates.
Definitely getting the sense the turnout will be low

The Irish Times also mention the Gavin votes split evenly between Connolly and Humphries in the poll sample. This is on track to be a bloodbath. Crazy to think how far behind Connolly looked when Jim Gavin’s candidacy was announced.
I personally find Fine Gaels debate strategy of attacking the opponent rather than promoting their own candidate really uninspiring.

Two completely bland, uninteresting or inspiring candidates.
Seems like both of them have spent the last 10 days defending themselves.
I haven’t missed a vote/election since I turned 18 and I really don’t think I’ll bother voting for either.
Does spoiling a vote still count as voting? Wanna keep my streak going.
Its over. Has been for a couple of weeks. The only questions now are will it be a record winning margin and a record low turnout.
If nothing else this campaign has been very on message by the FF/FG duopoly.
An omnishambles of low powered ineptitude
I guess people seem to actually want an opposition spokesperson as president. Be careful for what you wish for. It’s going to be controversial and interesting
I think RTE really showed their true colours during this campaign. We all know that they’re a government mouth piece, but they didn’t even try to hide it.
Her supporters are kidding themselves that she’s another Michael D but everytime she talks they have to explain why that’s totally not what she meant.
Between wanting the EU to be defenseless against Russian attacks and her endorsing Gemma O Doherty for president in 2018 it should be clear that she’s just a „west is bad“ tankie to everyone.
Does this mean they need to smear the bejaysus out of Connolly more or less?
Connolly is home and dry.
Like many voters, I was disillusioned with the whole thing and not a Connolly voter at all, due to all the obvious stuff (leftie Wallace/Daly leanings especially). But to be fair, over the last few weeks she has campaigned admirably and looked far more presidential than Humphreys, who just looks disinterested overall.

I will vote for Humphries. I consider voting to be an obligation and will not spoil my vote. I like Humphries better because she is a self proclaimed nationalist who, as an Ulster (Monaghan) presbyterian might have a better chance of reaching out to the loyalists of the six counties during discussions on a united Ireland.
I have concerns about Connelly because of her connections to politicians like Daly, Wallace and Doherty. She seems inconsistent to me.
All this said, I am not yet delighted by either candidate. They have my sympathy too, in a way. Robinson, Mc Aleese and Higgins will be hard acts to follow.
