Who exactly is running the country. The leader of the country claims to be „powerless“ in the face of the energy cartels.

Sounds exactly like the confidence trick being pulled in the Irish people by FFFG for generations. Obviously it takes one gouger to know another.
How is it different to the construction cartels. According to Martin’s logic if you provide a buyers grand, SEAI subsidy or a tax sweetener, they will just factor that into their charges and pocket the gent money accordingly.

Funny how he can recognise this regarding energy credits but not the massive hand outs pocketed by developers with their housing grants.

Why is this man pretending that he has not powers that would allow him to do something about obvious price gouging? He has all the powers, he choose not as usual because he’s working for big corporations and not the people of this country. His budget reeks of this.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin standing on the sidelines wringing his hands, lamenting the price~gouging and sharp~practice by energy suppliers, when he just delivered Budget 2026 which gave zero help to people… There’s a word for that…

CPI increases are something that needs to be banned too. How tf are companies able to hike prices mid contract. It’s absolutely ludicrous
Ireland’s energy markets are so confusing to me. I’ve lived in both the US and China, which are very opposite systems of economics and politics, but both countries have regulated utility providers. Gas and electric are natural monopolies, so there is one provider you buy from, and it’s heavily regulated.
As a consumer, how am I supposed to make a choice between a range of different providers? Do I have to assess if Bord Gáis is better than Energia at hedging their wholesale electricity or natural gas price exposure? Do I just go off who is cheapest at the moment, and hope they don’t jack up the prices later? Or should I constantly switch providers because their business models assume a certain percentage of customers don’t switch because they’re less price-sensitive and will pay higher rates rather than switching?
The do nothing taoiseach is basically a club owner pretending to be a pundit, a pope pretending to be a parish priest, a business owner pretending to be a shop assistant. Do something!
