“The authority estimated that the total number of debtors in enforcement proceedings could exceed 600,000 this year.”
600 thousand in a population of 5-6 MLN people is crazy 🤯.

    2. Need some proper education about money and debt and interests etc in school.. Even a lot of people I know fucked themselves up by taking loans (pikavippi) and not knowing how big interests and terms they have and then end up in Ulosotto. You’d think its common knowledge, but unfortunately it’s not.

When there are quick loan companies and Klarna for example that offers so much debt without any credit check, this is not that surprising.

People have failed to pay back pizza they bought with klarna credit…

    4. Finland really needs to have option to declare personal bankruptcy in the future. So many lives have been ruined by debts with insane interest rates .

On one hand it is so much easier to get consumer credits nowadays, and yes, people would need proper education in how to spend money.

On the other hand – inflation is high and salaries are not keeping up with it. This hits poor people, and sometimes having to replace just one device like a washing machine can start a spiral into debt.

    6. I work in the banking industry and i go through lots of peoples finances on a daily basis. Maxed out credit cards, half of the salary going to loan payments (pikavippi, klarna, ulosotto, osamaksu) and a LOT of gambling. People just spend way too much and are really bad at saving. The interesting part is that people who make decent money are just as bad with their money as people with lower wages. Also the Finnish culture of moving out young kills the potential of substantial savings growth while living with their parents.

    7. People also have increasingly many unnecessary bills and payments. Or loans for unnecessarily expensive things like more expensive cars, get a cheaper one.

It would do good for many to only use cash, it’s much harder to waste in subscriptions, online shopping. I guess there’s some illusion that Finnish people can afford to spend money despite having terrible purchasing power and prices.

    8. And the government is blaming people for hoarding money. The politicians have no idea what life is like for normal people

Well, the banks have all those maintenance breaks. Sure people have problems paying invoices.
